The protagonists deal with trauma from grade school. They both were once bullies that eventually got shunned by their classmates. Years have passed and they are now in high school, and they have since closed themselves completely from others. They also have suicidal thoughts at the very start of the stories. Contact is eventually made between the former bully and bullied.

The heroines are similarly fierce and solely live for a hard-to-reach long-term goal that will often put them in harm’s way.

The premises are kind of similar. With both her parents passed away, a young girl still in middle school is now thrown into orphanhood. Enters an older blood relative she had no relation with before. While the funeral takes place, that family member witnesses the difficult situation the girl is in, and is pushed to act as to become her guardian.

Either in Erased or Ship of Theseus, the protagonist inadvertently travels to the past and tries to stop a murderer before the crimes ever occur.
