Pkmn // the winds of change

Oh no, it's End of Year again...

Welp, it's been a while since I've done a real post here, so it's time for a personal update.

1) I am drawing again! Kind of. As of the past two weeks I have been drawing again. With the Adventure Time Season 5 looming, I've been doing a daily countdown drawing, although I start them so late in the day, the numbering is off for most people. Oh timezones. Anyway, I moved my drawing blog over to Tumblr, so you can find that at musogato.tumblr.com.

2) Still crocheting! I just finished re-designing my Korra amigurumi so she's more detailed and the eyes are less M&M-like, and have made a Naga one as well. Not size/scale accurate to Korra though, because that would be too big, and apparently I dislike that more than getting details wrong? I don't have pictures of that up yet, but I'll have it ready this weekend.

3) I made an Avengers pumpkin that features Hawkeye and Black Widow, and can be seen here on DeviantART.

4) fffffffff.......... what else. I started watching Doctor Who? I'm only a few episodes into the 2005 reboot (9th doctor?) and honestly I'm pretty damn confused on the whole thing. I thought reading the main Wiki page would help but ahahaha that just made it worse. But at least I know now that not all of the companions are named Rose. For a long time I thought it was like Legend of Zelda where the main character names/duties are reincarnated. But it seems that's only for the doctor. Okay.

5) Korra season 2 next year! Possibly in the spring. Is it bad that I don't want to think about it? I mean I look forward to seeing it, and it has to do with the Spirit World, omigosh♥, but fansite-wise I just want to bury my head in the sand. I'd say "maybe it's time to close the site," but I still like doing these pumpkin contests. And you can't really do one without the other, right? At least half of the entrants find it through DH. .... I feel like this every time the show is off-air though. And then when it's on I'm back in fangirl mode. I'll just have to wait and see before deciding anything.

6) Hurray, presidential second term! Hurray most women elected to congress in US history! Hurray that two of them came from my state! Hurray for the other awesome new things the people voted for in various states! But mostly, hurray for all of that disgusting corporate millions being spent and winning absolutely nothing, muahahaha. And hurray for people staying in line.

Argh, I'm tired of having this icon post on hold. It's been sitting here since November, but some of the icons have been waiting for over a year. Unfinished or not, I'm posting it now! >:/

Also Legend of Korra is freaking amazing, and I need to see The Avengers 800 more times. Please be on dvd by Christmas, I can't justify more theater tickets.

November news wrap

1) I meant to post this a few days ago but w/e; for those in the USA, have you heard about the Stop Online Piracy Act? It is a good-intentioned bill wrapped in some serious bad legislation for the internet as a whole. I wrote up a thing about it here on the DH Forum that also has links to more informative websites regarding it. Or you can just check out AmericanCensorship.org, I suggest that you do. :/

2) It's the last few days of voting for the DH Avatar Pumpkin Carving Contest, and we could really use more votes! So if you have a minute, could you please vote for your favorite five pumpkins? Thank you! The results will go up on Monday.

3) I guess because I entered the LJ pumpkin contest thing, they gave me/everyone a two-month paid extension?? Oh my gosh! It means I get 15 more icons, hoohoohaha, of which I will gladly make use of by uploading a bunch of Captain America/Chris Evans icons, hee. But since there aren't too many on LJ that I liked, I'll be making my own, so there will be an icon post soon as well. Also, I wanted to say thank you to whoever gave me that Blue Spider v-gift some weeks ago, it's really cute. =3 Thank you!

4) Something else was going to go here, but I keep getting lost in Chris' glow. So I guess that's it?

5) Okay, wait, I remembered. I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year, because I am lazy/busy and not in the writing spirit this time around. I am doing NaNoDrawMo, which is being posted on my art blog. It's mostly people practice though, so I'm not sure if it actually qualifies. Not that that matters, of course, just practicing is value enough.

Amigurumi Update

It only took forever, but I finally finished that Legend of Korra amigurumi doll. You can see it on DeviantART, or just peek Collapse )

She's 6 and a half inches tall and can stand on her own (after some balancing help). Throughout the month my family has been asking me, "won't I be sad to give it away, after working on it for so long?" The answer was and is continuing to be, "ha ha ha, NO." I have to say my biggest relief regarding the doll is that I can finally stop working on it. It was pretty frustrating to make, although probably in part because the colors I needed were only available in those multi-color skeins. So I had to cut the yarn to separate the colors (usually every 2 to 5 inches), and then tie the same-color scraps together so it would be long enough to crochet with. And then crochet the doll in a way so that the knots could be hidden on the inside. ....Yeah. Next time I'm buying my (single-color) yarn online. Or at least starting the prizes many months ahead of the contest.

I am excited to start carving my pumpkin tomorrow though. My pumpkin seems to have stored very well, although I guess I'll see how it really faired once I cut into it. I have a Legend of Korra design ready to go, but if I finish carving it early, I have a Trigun design that I can fit on the back too. I really hope I can carve 'em both; there is a very sad number of Trigun pumpkins online if you don't count Kuroneko.

pumpkin pumpkin pumpkin~

I can't believe October is here already, and it's already almost half-way through! Aaaaaah. The stores now have the Christmas decoration up next to the Halloween costumes and candy, and I am just not ready for this year to be over yet. But at least these last months will be busy, with the pumpkin contest this month and NaNoWriMo next month. Speaking of...

Yay, annual pumpkin contest! I already bought my pumpkin, which I guess wasn't very smart, but it is lovely and I am doing my best to keep it cool and dry until it's Carving Time. I am fairly certain I'm going to carve something Korra related, but I gotta admit, it's very tempting to do something Adventure Time or Trigun related instead. Maybe I'll just look up those pumpkin themes on dA instead.

Also for the contest, I am crocheting a Korra amigurumi doll as a prize. My sister taught me how to crochet over the summer, and after some practice I thought I would do this. I'm about 50% done; just got to make the boots, arms, face, and front hair/bangs. She was supposed to be 5-inches tall, but I modified the pattern a bit to ease my yarn shortage, so now she is 6 and a half. I think something went wrong there. In theory she is supposed to be able to stand by herself, but her head is so top-heavy I'm not sure if she'll be able to. Maybe I'll put pennies in her shoes to help? Or would that be bad for metal detectors. =x

Anyway, after I finish her, I really want to make a Wolfwood amigurumi with a cross and little portable confessional (aww~), but maybe I should make Aang instead for another prize. It should be finished faster this time around since I know more of what I'm doing. (....this all sounds really awful, but the Korra doll actually looks okay! I'll post pictures when I'm done.)

Aaaahhhhh!

I got a Nintendo 3DS! Aaaaahhhh! I am typing this via its internet browser. Slow, haha, but cool. I got the Aqua Blue 3ds, it's a lot prettier than I thought it would be! More greenish than the pictures show. The 3D effects remind me of Toy Story 3 -- more image depth than in-your-face gimmicks. Ocarina of Time 3D is fantastic; I can't get over how beautiful this game looks. And it sounds just like the N64 version! Ahaha. I really hope Majora's Mask will be remade like this too. <3

I should probably stop and send this, just in case it doesn't work. Is LJ still being funky? I've been on internet vacation. Lots of stuff to catch up on. I better play more games instead.

oh my glob, DH updates

Legend of Korra is so badass, it has me updating my website again. Who would of guessed!

I have no clue how I'm going to reorganize the site for the Korra content (on the current info pages? In its own section? On its own mini-site? My teeth are grinding to dust over it), but for now the recap page was a good opportunity to test the new layout coding.

You can see it here! =D

I started the coding back in 2008 -- the idea was to mimic the old IFrames layout, but use current php/div coding so people can bookmark individual pages and hopefully switch through different layout skins. It seems to work fine for me, but I don't know how it will work with other computers/browsers/ipads/etc. So hopefully this test will help me figure out whether to move forward with it or not.

~That's where you guys come in!~ :D Basically, just visit the page and tell me if there's anything broken. Clicking on any of the side-navigation links will take you back to the main site (and the old layout), so you can compare the two, if you want to spend more than two seconds on it. ^^;

Thank you!
