i've been setting myself up for the fall
I cried my way through Gifted on Saturday, and I can only hope CEvans decides to do a sideline in loving dad roles going forward because it's a good look for him. Needed more Octavia Spencer, though.
And yesterday, I watched Orphan Black: Gag and Throttle
HOLY CRAP RACHEL.
I mean, I knew it had to be coming once she realized the eye was also a monitoring device and that Westmoreland had lied to her just like every other parental figure in her life, but HOLY CRAP. THE STEM OF THE MARTINI GLASS. I couldn't watch. I had to peek through my hand.
Rachel's a viper but a smart one - all the clones are in their ways - and while I'm sure it was only ~15% wanting to help Kira/the next generation and 85% wanting to burn down Neolution and everyone who ever wronged her, I'm so glad she got Kira out! "Who hurt you?" "All of them." sent blissful chills down my spine.
I loved that Kira was smart enough to get a coded message out to Sarah and that she also hustled Rachel or at least knew how best to manipulate her. I am hoping Kira and Charlotte get to meet.
S is the best, no lie. I love her so much.
Mark! And Gracie! I hope Mark is playing Coady because I guarantee she'll have no qualms about sacrificing him for ~science (or her own well-being, if it comes to that), and that Gracie's there to repay her debt to Helena for betraying her earlier.
Allison's wig was terrible, but Donnie's responses to newly artsy Allison were hilarious.
Hopefully Felix and Adele will be back and we'll see the whole of clone club together soon (let Krystal in on the secret! Come on!) as there aren't many episodes left.
In SDCC news:
+ the Black Panther stuff all looks AMAZING
+ Thor: Ragnarok looks delightfully charming
+ Infinity War looks like a hot mess but features beardy Steve in a black stealth suit and Bucky with a new arm, so I'll get over Natasha's blonde hair, I guess. The ability of any movie to service so many characters, otoh...
+ Justice League looks like two separate movies being smooshed into one - I am into Wonder Woman and Aquaman, as well as Alfred and Jim Gordon, but skeptical of everything else. (Is that Darkseid? Those were parademons, right? Can we get Big Barda on screen?)
+ The Star Wars books in the lead up to The Last Jedi look like fun (CHEWIE AND THE PORGS! Legends of Luke Skywalker! A 16yo Princess Leia book! A Canterbury Tales-like anthology! With authors like Ken Liu and Elizabeth Wein and Saladin Ahmed in addition to Claudia Gray and Chuck Wendig!) I am excite!
+ I like that Captain Marvel is going to be set in the 90s - it explains why they cast someone so young as Carol, though I wonder if that means they'll recast for present-day Carol or what. And Nick Fury will be there! And maybe we could get a Peggy Carter cameo!
I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting atm, but work keeps interrupting. Sigh.

Still, I'm more excited at the lopsided look at the IW trailer than the official Justice League one. While WW was appropriately badass, the only one that seemed to be having fun was Aquaman/Jason Momoa -- he remains a delight.
To be honest, I'm a little weirded out by a more coherent Hulk but Thor Ragnarok still looks awesome even if I liked the first trailer better.
I heard that there's a sneak peek of Black Panther that they're not leaking into the general populace :(
ETA: I'm like Donnie, when I look at nu!Alison. I giggled at Donnie's expression every time he looked at her hair. And OMG Rachel!
I really like Gifted. I ended up shipping Chris with Octavia to the point that I was wondering what happened to her in the end since it looked like they moved to a new/better neighborhood.

The JL trailer did not inspire confidence in me. *hands* I will wait for reviews before deciding to see it. I loved WW but I'm not giving the DCEU more money without some assurances.

I was definitely thinking about shipping them! She needed to be in the movie more either way. *g*

Sadly Thor:Ragnarokandroll looks like it will give me a giant headache in the theatre, and yet probably 80% of it needs to be seen in the theatre to be enjoyed. This is a familiar problem for me, sigh. Hel and the Valkyrie look great. I continue to mourn Chris Hemsworth's shorn locks, no seriously. I wonder how much screentime Hulk will get, if he talks and Bruce has been....suppressed? Out of it?
Civil War made me think "gee, maybe AoU wasn't so bad" and it looks like IW will make me think "CW had its good points....at least two...." I regularly fforward through the Thanos bits when I rewatch GotG and I hate him in the comics, so that is going to be a big problem. We already know I am a shallow shallow person (see above re: Hemsworth's hair or lack thereof) but man, Evans and Stan just don't look that good to me, which is whack because they're hot actors. Maybe it was just the effect of a bootleg trailer filmed sideways in a dark room, I hope so. ScarJo is a natural blonde, right? Maybe if she's blonde in IW at least she won't be wearing another awful wig? Did anyone else's look get changed around so much from movie to movie, even Wanda's or Sharon's? I don't think so. Maybe they can spin it as being revelatory of Nat's chamaeleon qualities. But mostly it just annoys me. Nat herself would probably be amused tho.
Is it me or does MCU seem to be setting up Peter Parker as a kind of junior Steve? I wonder if Steve will die and then come back in the sequel, or just die. (SOB) Chris Evans should show up to at least one convention wearing the Nomad outfit. With cape.
I heard Justice League had some reshoots to add more Diana after WW soared? Heh. It at least looks like there's some fun parts, unlike BvS. Well, BvS sort of had fun parts, but I don't think they meant the tire-punching and chain fetish to be funny. Also: JASON MOMOA.

Ha! I think CW was miles better than AoU despite CW's issues, but IW looks like it is just too much and I guess that's why there's also a second part, but meh, I'm not convinced it's going to be entertaining. And I love the bearded stealth suit look Cap's got going on so I feel like that could be worth it to me.

No, I think that's exactly why they do it, but I'm eh on the blonde here. I'd rather she have her Avengers or AOU hair.

That's his role in the comics so it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm loving the speculation that (all the moments anyone dislikes) means that that someone was a Skrull, though.

That is exactly what I'm thinking. I guess we'll see.
(Also, where has she _been_?!)
Space, I would guess, or helping to form SWORD.

Always a reliable retcon! *g*

did someone manage to sneak out footage of the infinity wars trailer? i've only seen the couple of posters on tumblr, and holy hell they're a mess. just... way too many characters. i am not encouraged. beardy steve is a good look, tho.

Yes, exactly! I just want it to be fun and it looks like it will be.
did someone manage to sneak out footage of the infinity wars trailer?
They did but I couldn't watch it - it was like the upper left corner of the screen at an angle, and I just couldn't figure out anything that was happening in it so I clicked out. Beardy Steve is a GREAT look.

I thought it must be Darkseid, too, and my first thought about that was OH PLS BIG BARDA. Because that would be awesome.
