Torchwood on Youtube

So, I confess to being a Torchwood junkie. It's a bad habit that I can't kick (though Miracle Day may cure me... not thrilled just now - and only just started Miracle Day. It took me years to be ready for Children of the Earth for some reason).

Anyway, every now and then, I stumble across Youtube fanvids. A lot of the same clips get played over and over and you can create all sorts of interesting things by taking the clips out of context. Nonetheless, they can be fun. One of the coolest things about them though - every now and then I stumble across a brilliant song I have never heard before. This is one such example. I liked it so much, I bought the album on iTunes.

Best laid plans...

Well, I didn't do anything I had planned today.

But, I did make saskatoon berry sauce and prepped enough berries for four pies. Three bags of berries are portioned and in the freezer, one is on the counter waiting to be made into pie. :-D

Played with my fish tanks today, enjoying the new cardinal tetras that I added yesterday.

Checked Canadian Tire to see if they had any cheap but useful bathroom storage options. (Nope.)

Did some gardening.

Emptied part of the bookcase I mentioned earlier.

Made yummy teriyaki skewers with beef, chicken, onions, cherry tomatoes, mixed peppers and pineapple.

Tidied the kitchen a bit.

Went to the library with my son - he found books he wanted; sadly I didn't find the Dr Who DVDs I wanted. I put a hold on the first season though.

None of that is in order, but it seems like a pretty reasonable list for the day. Right now, I have some shocking peace & quiet. Will is at fight practice and Jamie is at a friend's house for another half hour. Quiet... What to do with myself? Maybe I should try to unpack that box after all....

So, what's new?

Let's see... what's happened in the last two years? Way too much to catch up on. So, let's start fresh instead.

We're settling into the new place in the co-op. It's frustrating though - it's so small and currently, I just don't know where to put things. We have 8 boxes still sitting in the living room. More than half of them contain various files and stuff that need sorting and some place to be stored. One of the boxes is from Cayt's place and is a pile of files that need sorting and then Will has to make decisions on what should be kept and what should be discarded. It's been 3 years since Cayt passed away (although much less time since we've had her files in our hands), but there never seems to be a good time to deal with it all. In the last place, there was a room to hide this kind of stuff, but not here. So, I'm left with a living room that I can't seem to unpack.

There's the laundry/craft room. No washer and dryer, so honestly, it's a craft room. It's funny... I always thought that I had the most craft junk, but I can't actually get much of mine in the door! Will's leather working stuff is bulky. Plus there's the archery gear. And various bits of tools and tech, etc. My scrapbooking stuff is sitting in the hallway by our bedroom door because I can't get it into the room. Of course, there are also boxes of fabric in there and a big basket of knitting and our feast gear and... more files that need sorting. I think we need to get a filing cabinet. That would definitely help.

Well, whining aside, I need to come up with a plan to make some sort of difference in here today. A little every day, right?

Dishes are done. Laundry is mostly caught up.

I know! We picked up a new cabinet on Used Vic and the plan is to get rid of one of the bookcases in favour of the cabinet. I am going to see if I can empty the bookcase today, or at least mostly empty it. Then we can shift that cabinet into the right place and I can load it up tomorrow. I think that I will also try to get at least one more box unpacked. Shower first.

hey strangers....

So, you can tell I'm on holiday... I keep finding my way back to things that have been long neglected, like LJ. I am sorry that I abandoned you so completely. I have three blogger blogs that I post to periodically, plus facebook and twitter. And well... there's that job thing that I am so sick of talking about. I do come to read what people post from time to time, especially when Will nudges me to do so. He's much better at remembering to read lj than I am.

Holy crumb! It has been a while. There's a thesis post in my top ten recent posts. :-P

Meat muffins!

My mum's recipe - it's become a staple for us. I add a lot of stuff to it, depending on what is in the house. Worchestershire, onion, celery, corn, carrot, mustard... whatever. And yes, they are very kid-friendly. Jamie and I often eat them when he has something to get to (Beavers, swimming lessons etc) and Will's at work. We usually add steamed veg, maybe some oven chips ... I nuke them from frozen for about a minute and a half each.

Mummy's Yummy Shortbread recipe

 My mum's shortbread recipe
1 lb butter (or margarine, though butter definitely tastes better)
1 tsp vanilla (or more)
3 cups flour
1 cup icing sugar
1/2 cup cornstarch (aka corn flour)

Beat vanilla and butter until whipped. Really needs electric beaters or it will do in your arms.
Sift in all dry ingredients and beat for 3 minutes (until it resembles whipped cream). This can be very hard on the beaters, but it is worth it.
Drop on cookie sheets (or load into an icing thing and make pretty shapes on the cookie sheets).
Top with bits of fruit if desired (we like candied ginger).
Bake at 350/180 for 12-15 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. YUMMY.shortbread

Viking boat-graves?

 Hi folks,

Anyone on my friends list (other than Zoe who is a copy-editing fiend and already has enough of my stuff on her plate) feel like copy editing a chapter on boat-graves? You don't need to know about boat-graves or even Vikings. You do need to know when I am abusing commas or have missed a typo.

If you can help me out, please let me know soon. :-D

Archetypes....

So, I was talking to Al tonight and we ended up talking about archetypes. She's been feeling very introspective lately, and has been thinking a lot about archetypes in her life.

Anyway, it got me to thinking.... what kind of archetype do you associate with me? You tell me what you think, and if you like, I'll tell you what I think in terms of an archetype for you. No promises that I get it right, or even that I necessarily get it at all. It rather depends on how well I know you, how well I know my archetypes, and whether or not I actually have the free time to visit LJ this week, as I am meant to be revising my conclusion by Friday. Oh, and because I don't want people to peek at each other's answers (if anyone answers!), I'm screening comments for the time being.

(I guess I'm kind of creating a meme here. Maybe I should word it better? Ah well - I'm doing enough editing in my life these days.)
