Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew watched with silent amusement as the fourth Marauder, James Potter, pursued Lily Evans for what seemed to be the twentieth time that day.

“Ten Galleons he begs.” Peter laughed.

“Wormtail… this is Prongs… of course he will.” Sirius replied, though he too was laughing.

“I’d…” Remus tried to string words together in James’ defense, “No… Merlin, let’s just enjoy the show shall we?”

“Evans… Lily, LILY.” James bellowed as he tried to get her attention. He was seated right across from her.

“Go away, Potter.” She replied, not looking up from her book.

“Lily, come on, just one date? It’ll be excellent, I mean really. I’ll be gentlemanly and everything.”

“Merlin he’s really laying it on thick.” Sirius snorted.

“Charming, but no, Potter.” Lily answered lamely.

“Evans,” He quite liked saying the last name for some reason, “just look up and see that I am really sincere.”

“No, Potter. I’d rather not.”

“Lily, the only thing stopping you from being with me is that you don’t want to be with me.” James said frantically. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

“You know, Potter?” She asked, looking up at him trying to hide the quirk in her lips that would lead to a grin, “For the first time, I agree with you.” To avoid showing any more emotion, (what, feelings aside from complete loathing for Potter?), she shut her book and went upstairs, at what she hoped was a casual pace.

The other Marauders swarmed. “So?” Peter asked tentatively.

“There was a hint of a smirk.” James said triumphantly.

“Well, you did get a bit desperate.” Remus replied, trying not to laugh.

“That’s… that is going to have to get written down ‘The only thing stopping you from being with me is that you don’t want to be with me’. Classic, Prongs. Classic. I’m bringing it up at your wedding, mate.”

“To Lily.” James mused.

“Poor girl,” Remus laughed, “stuck with a nutter like you.”

“Ditto that.”
