Dear Yuletide Writer (2022)
Oct. 18th, 2022 07:42 pmHi mystery writer! Thank you in advance for whatever you’re going to write.
I have a lot of interests and enjoy a very large range of tropes. I adore both romantic and gen stories, especially with an emphasis on found family. I enjoy big dramatic confessions and when characters step in front of the other to protect them and when they hide injuries to not worry the other. I also love small acts of caring like cooking for each other or that thing when character A falls asleep while reading and character B picks up the book and bookmarks it to make sure character A doesn’t lose their place. Stuff like that.
My tolerance for angst is very high, feel free to take any ideas and go ‘all hurt, no comfort’ on them. All types of endings (happy, unhappy, bittersweet, etc.) are welcome. If it’s not in my DNWs, feel free and, if you’re into it, encouraged to include it. This includes things like infidelity, addiction, break ups, divorce, homophobia, self-harm, and suicide.
I have an ao3 account and occasionally post on tumblr and twitter.
Do Not Wants
1. Drowning
2. Bathroom kinks
3. Incest
4. Non-con and torture as the main plot point (mentions are ok).
5. Snakes
6. AUs that aren't rooted in canon, like a high school AU or a coffee shop AU.
General Fandom Likes
As I said, my tastes are pretty varied. I especially love tropes like ‘there was only one bed’, huddling for warmth, and fake dating/married. None of these things have to be romantic! I like it when characters are protective of the other. Found family. Found family. Found family. I love reading dialogue where the characters bounce off the other, whether it’s flirting, bantering, or arguing. I like it when characters are good at things and when they mess up despite being good at things. I can’t write comedy so I’m in awe of all who do. I’m a bit of a drama queen so I adore it when characters fight with each other and then make up. Or maybe they don’t make up and the resentment simmers under everything. I like when fics reference canonical events a lot or seem to really exist in canon. Also porn. I really love porn.
Porn Likes
If it’s not in my DNWs, it’s fine by me. I adore the ‘pining while fucking’ trope, it may be my favorite trope in existence. I love it when there’s a lot of feelings going around. I also enjoy stories where one character has a kink and the other isn’t really into it but they do it because they love them. Service topping/bottom-ing. Sexual dysfunction stuff.
Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty
The thing that draws me to Sleuth is that it’s about a competent and passionate group of public servants full of conviction coming together to solve crimes and save people. I adore the found family element. It’s my favorite part. I would be so remiss if I forgot to say that the focus on food is one of the first things I bring up when I’m trying to sell someone else on this show. All the cooking montages are so much fun to watch, and then getting that sense of comfort from seeing the characters eat together is just the icing on the cake. Food references would be very welcome!
Romantic stories are not necessary, but if you’re asking, I ship Sui Zhou/Tang Fan, but am open to all other ships. Some others I really enjoy are Tang Fan/Wang Zhi and Sui Zhou/Li Fei.
Fourteenth Year of Chenghua (Novel)
The differences between FYC and Sleuth really fascinate me. They both have the same emphasis on food and found family but different nuances in characterization and messaging. I appreciate how FYC dives deep into Ming-era bureaucracy and how it contextualizes the story within history.
I’m not asking for any specific characters because I’m open to everything. I like when Wang Zhi and Tang Fan interact. Lu Lingxi is also my sweet child. If you’re into it, I’m open to all pairings but have a particular soft spot for Sui Zhou/Tang Fan/Wang Zhi. I just think they have a really fun energy.
You’re the Worst
YTW manages to be a hilarious show about truly awful people who you’d probably hate in real life that also deserve love, friendship, and understanding as much as anyone else. I don’t know how they do it, but this show might be the most realistic thing I’ve ever seen about relationships. Jimmy/Gretchen have outstanding chemistry and serious foibles. Their love never feels forced. Their friendships are often just as complicated as their own relationship. I appreciate that the show isn’t a mess of cynicism and that it somehow believes in romance, even if these people are, in fact, the worst.
Jimmy and Gretchen don’t have to be together, but if they’re not then I’d like there to be a reason. Besides that, I’m open to absolutely everything else. Feel free to make everyone terrible.
West Coast Avengers
Kate’s my fav, and I appreciate how this comic emphasizes both her competency as a leader and her struggles as a person. She’s relatable, and she’s awesome. I like the humor of the series as well as the emphasis on intergroup dynamics. It gets weird, too! I also enjoy the reality show framing technique.
I’d like to read anything with with Kate, honestly. I ship America/Kate, but I also enjoy her canon relationship with Johnny and her friendship with Clint as well as the rest of the group.
