If you followed a comment of mine posted somewhere in one of the (many many) fandom journals I stalk, or because I friended you, please don't feel pressured to friend me back. I honestly don't maintain a fandom journal of my own as I don't produce anything worth looking at. My fandom interaction is pretty much reading other's contributions and commenting on them. (Sad, I know.)
If you came here from the knitting comm, I tend to lurk on communities using this ID. I am "mremre" over on Ravelry.
If you're curious about the Bat-doggie icon, it's a chibi-ized sketch my sister's friend made of her miniature pinscher. It was for her class project, and my sister turned our family into an anime series--hence, the bat wings. Minus the wings, though, that really is pretty much what Raki looks like. See for yourself!
Thanks for your visit and understanding, and have fun all!
How it works: • Bold all of the following TV shows of which you’ve seen 3 or more episodes. • Italicize a show if you’re positive you’ve seen every episode. • Asterisk * if you have at least one full season on tape or DVD • If you want, add up to 3 additional shows (keep the list in alphabetical order).
Assuming you have all the same patch level for the game and all mods, and that your LAN or internet connection is working properly, MAKE SURE that all the players in the group have the exact same list of mods, in the exact same order of priority.
Apparently, Synergies Lowpop+Synegies+Pet Skins+rainbow of color IS NOT EQUAL to Synergies Lowpop+Synergies+rainbow of color+Pet Skins ... who knew, right?
Anyway, LAN multiplayer Synergies mod achieved. My nephew and I had fun screaming at each other to get the "giant lizard bear man on the right! the other right!!!"
To everyone who lives in a latitude that has winter, I really, REALLY envy you right now. It's nearly midnight where I am, and it is 84F indoors, without a breath of wind to ease things. GAH. I look at the NYC or SEA reports (60F and 45F, respectively) and all I can think of is: I WANT.
You can always wear more layers if you're cold, but when you're hot, you're courting a public indecency charge when you go too far.
I could not for the life of me find a ficfinding community for the Hobbit, but I need, need, NEED to find this oneshot humor fic:
It's set in Beorn's house. The Company decide Bilbo needs to learn to use his sword and Bilbo is reluctant. It turns out that all the Shirefolk are taught meditation and "the Ways" (aka mad skillz) beginning when they are wee little babies. As a gentlehobbit, Bilbo is only expert at unarmed combat, but other families have their own Tool styles. Belladonna was called the Mistress of Feathers. Bilbo happily takes on all comers in a glorious brawl, and Dwalin is in his element. Kili crawls out of the scrum requesting permission to go back to the Shire and recruit more hobbits.
I remember all this, but I don't have a title, an author, a bookmark or a favorite and I am disgusted by myself. I read it on AO3, and distinctly remember commenting and kudos-ing, but I can't find it in my email or AO3 history at all. I'm about to brave the wilds of Tumblr to find this. If you know, send word!
Note to self: It's Para Bellum on AO3, same author that wrote that Victorian-era Holmes/Sentinel fusion...
WHERE is the squeeful fannishness? The latest Dresden Files book came out last week, and I can't find any Cold Days reaction posts... Am I looking in all the wrong places? (And if you say Tumblr, please please also say there are other places to find it.)
Then I got to the last 100 pages and there was (as always) no time to breathe much less reaction-post. Basically? SUPER MEGA UPHEAVAL AMAZE. (And for what Harry told X to do if Y did something at the end? Biiiiig brass ones.)
I have never wanted to travel into the future more, if only to get a 'complete works of Jim Butcher' box set that has all 25 (or howevermany) novels in the series.
For the cliffhanger-averse: the story is wrapped up. I just want to see the next bits right now, because the next bits will be AWESOME. Is it next year yet?
I am the lucky owner of a Nexus 4, who won the F5 lottery at the Google Play store 2 weeks ago and managed to acquire my unlocked penta-band worldphone with no carrier software at all for an incredible $300. Considering I was thinking of upgrading to the Samsung GS3 (which is going for 300 to 700, depending on contract) this is a huge steal.
Stock or not, I still need to root the device so I can install Adfree on my phone. I have tried every root instruction set and toolkit ON THE PLANET (hi xda! we are such friends now!). I managed to unlock the bootloader (and if you ever do this on your android device, I recommend doing it as soon as you open the box because it wipes all your data to begin with) but root continues to escape me.
Last night, I decided to try the superboot method, which looks foolproof. Except.
I have rebooted the phone maybe 30 times while trying, and no matter how I pressed vol +/- and power, Fastboot did not start. I would get the usual startup 'X' instead of the Android innards command screen. All I need is ONE LAST fastboot--come on, N4! Give it up for your doting owner!
All my life, I have failed and failed and failed to make myself a nice sunny-side up egg for breakfast. I have told all and sundry that I like making scrambled eggs and omelettes (more flat than fluffy, but I am getting there) because that's all I can make for myself. A nice fried egg requires intervention.
But now! I have achieved fried egg! I still can't make it sunny side up, but a misshapen over-easy? CAN DO!
--Admittedly, it is a singularly unhealthy breakfast. My workaround involved frying bacon on low for about 20 minutes to let the bacon fat accumulate, shove bacon to one side, crack the egg(s) into a handy bowl (because cracking it into the pan=scrambled egg in the pan. Eggs hate me ;), pour eggs into pool of bacon fat, tilt/move pan so majority of fat/egg is over the hottest part and wait. The bottom of the egg whites will soon detach from the pan so this is my chance to sort of scootch the egg over so the uncooked portions hit the fat et voila! One not-an-even-circle fried egg, over easy. VICTORY.
(I went on to use the leftover fat to lightly fry some asparagus spears. That's healthy, right? :D Two Sundays in a row I have managed this heart attack breakfast... I declare myself eggscellent. ;)
I'm normally not for memes, but I wanted to see how I measured up. I was surprised how many of this list I have not read. Still, ~25% isn't that bad, and all things considered--most of the 'classics' bolded below I read for school, and I'd bet my reading lists growing up were very different from whoever put this list of books together. I mean, I do think of myself as a reader, and I read a LOT of books. If 1984 got on this list, why not The Moon is a Harsh Mistress? Or The Unbearable Lightness of Being? I love Enid Blyton, but Lloyd Alexander isn't "good enough" to be on this list?
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline those you LOVE. 4) Put two plus signs next to the ones that you've tried to read and then gave up on. 5) Put an asterisk next to the books you'd rather die than read (or read again). ...And adding -- next to books I never read but watched the movie of ;)
