my eyes roll all the way to the back of my head whenever i see people saying things like "btvs isn't good exactly but it is iconic 90s television." it's okay to admit you like something without adding a million qualifiers to protect your ego. buffy is a good show. it wouldn't be so iconic and influential and beloved if it weren't good. it's got plenty of flaws, obviously, and the showrunner was not a good person. but i feel like some people need tv shows to be glossy ass golden age of television ten hour movies about brooding white guys before they feel comfortable expressing genuine appreciation for them. or alternatively, they need to prove that they're not morally deficient for liking something that they have criticisms of. and that's a fucking skill issue, not a reflection of the show's quality. btvs is a good show with good characters and good writing and compelling themes. if it didn't have all those things going for it, people wouldn't still be so passionate about it 30 years after the fact.

noted that Robin Wood is excused from the whole spike conversation because he's justified in literally everything he did. like even if you didn't pretend the show was being uniquely crazy racist by putting him in the position he was & how it is that he's the only black character here who just happens to be wrong about everything and unjustified in his anger and I could make a whole seperate post unpicking that but like. imagine your mom was killed by a tiger. and in this scenario we must also imagine that tigers are ontologically evil. imagine your mom was killed by an ontologically evil tiger and so you spent your life fighting tigers that kill people , and then you run into the Head Tiger Killer who's continuing your mom's legacy of Head Tiger Killer and she's hanging out with the tiger that killed your mom. and you must imagine in this bad metaphor that tigers are ontologically evil parasites that do nothing for the world but kill people so maybe it's more like the concept of a virus, but like, whatever. the virus tiger. covid tiger. and the head tiger killer is like don't worry the tiger that killed your mom doesn't kill people anymore he's good. and you're like, what? he's a tiger. that's not how it works. and she goes no I trust him 🥺. and you go are you in love with the tiger? and she goes no though she clearly is. and then you find out that the tiger that killed your mom who is supposedly a vegetarian tiger could accidentally snap and kill anyone at any moment. and you're like okay in this scenario our best course of action is to kill the tiger. we cant risk the tiger killing people in our house, you know like it killed my mom. and the head tiger killer is like but he's literally vegetarian now! and then the tiger tells you your mom never loved you

There’s this one very wealthy lady whose eccentric inheritance rule was that the Christian charity she donated to HAD to put a water slide in every youth center. And therefore all the centers do actually have great water slides for an audience of usually extremely impoverished families. And when I worked on a research study about kids’ spiritual development, I asked like 25 different kids focus group questions about God and the water slides came up constantly. Mostly that God helped them find the courage to go down the slide. I have learned a lesson about what God wants in terms of water slide construction. I may yet become the Noah of water parks.

You realize that if you’re Noah, everyone but you and your family dies at the water park, right?

I know im not the only one that noticed that Shen looks super tired (and even a bit annoyed imo) in that first scene of the teaser and considering his conversation with Abbot I was thinking:

How part of it is obvious physical exhaustion, surely he or jack had to do doubles to cover for Robby not showing up for the last couple of days (maybe weeks?)

Another part is that everyone has noticed how 'Michael Robinavich' has pop up in the weekly schedule but there's no sign of the man and everyone is wondering where he is (jacks comment). Now is another consecutive day where 6:00 am hits the clock and he doesn't come into the ER, what had started as a few whispers wondering where he was now had become a tension that had the whole department looking over their shoulder expecting Gloria to come down and tell them anything.

But for the most part Shen is tired by overthinking if that what his future looks like too. When he singed in for the job he knew it was going to be hard work, begin and attending was no walk in the park but he had found in his opinion a good balance with his private life. But he was just over a year into the job while Robby and Abbot had been doing this for more than twenty years. He couldn't ignore how both of them were doing terrible in a personal sense.

is he also doomed to become a middle age depressed man with no life outside the hospital ??

I had in mind to write a one shot exploring this (no promises that im actually going to do it) but I had the URGE to share my thoughts asap.

One day the Dunkin by the hospital will close, and Shen will hang himself in a supply closet

I truly enjoy how much Animorphs is like “here are our young heroes, each with a distinctive trope to fill in the group!” And then it makes you watch how the pressure of each person’s role grinds them to dust. And also they have homework.

#IM SORRY THEY DO HOME FUCKING WORK IN ANIMORPHS??????

Yeah they're students. If they don't keep their grades up or if they miss too many classes (or miss classes at suspicious times) then they risk drawing the attention of the faculty and/or their parents, some of whom are the enemy and some of whom can just make future espionage a whole lot harder. There are multiple missions where they're like "okay, this is incredibly time sensitive but it'll take a full day or longer so it has to wait for the weekend and we'll have to all lie to our parents about sleeping over at each others' houses. It's gonna have to be done at the last minute because we've gotta go to class. Also, remember to get that English paper finished, we can NOT afford to have you grounded right now."

They also get disembowelled and/or eaten a lot
