"GOP Rep.: ‘You Can’t Have Your Privacy Violated If You Don’t Know Your Privacy Is Violated’

Today’s hearing at the NSA mostly consisted of softballs being lobbed at the intelligence heads, with a few tough questions about spying on foreign leaders here and there. But perhaps the most shocking moment of all came when the Republican head of the House Intelligence Committee actually suggested that it’s impossible to have your privacy violated if you don’t know that your privacy is being violated.
Republican Congressman Mike Rogers was interrogating American University College of Law professor Stephen Vladeck over his concerns about NSA surveillance programs, poking and prodding a professor more aggressively than most members of Congress have dared do with the people actually making these decisions behind closed doors.
Rogers said, “Maybe the fact that we haven’t had any complaints come forward with any specificity arguing that their privacy has been violated clearly indicates, in ten years, clearly indicates that something must be doing right––somebody must be doing something exactly right.”
Vladeck rightly asked, “But who would be complaining?” And that’s when Rogers dropped this piece of knowledge.
“Somebody whose privacy was violated. You can’t have your privacy violated if you don’t know your privacy is violated, right?”
I’ll just repeat that last bit, in case you didn’t read it right.
“You can’t have your privacy violated if you don’t know your privacy is violated, right?”
This is the individual who runs the House committee that is supposed to conduct oversight of American intelligence agencies.
Ha. Ha. Ha ha ha."
Oddly enough, I'm not laughing. When I was in the USAF, I used to think members of Congress should be held to the same high and often antiquated standards the military is.
How about any standards at all?

If you are not positive how much money was in your purse you were not robbed.
And if you don't know some pervert climbed a tree and filmed you and the missus doing the wild thing thru the upstairs window that's lacking in draperies because of the tree and puts it on the internets, you aren't' a victim because, you will never find out.
