It's Memorial Day in the States, a time to remember those who have died while in military service. Who would you like to remember today?
To anyone who has ever served this country and those that have fought and died for her.
Specific mentions:
A family member who lived in Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War - He let Rebel troops live and train on his land
The several family members who fought for the north during the Civil War
My Great Grandfather's brother - He answered the call during WWI, but was found to have a heart condition and shipped home before he could go overseas
My late Grandmother's father - He served in WWII and in Korea. He earned 2 bronze stars and 3 silver stars as well as the purple heart
My late Grandmother's Uncle - Served in the Army during WWII in Europe
My Grandfather's Brother in Law(still living) - He flew P-38 Lightnings during WWII
My Grandfather's cousin - He died in Pearl Harbor on the USS Arizona
My Grandfather(still living) - Served in the tail end of WWII and two tours of duty during the Korean War as a Seabee in the Pacific
To the majority of my grandparent's friends, some still living, some dead, who served in all the different branches of the service from WWII through Veitnam
My Stepdad(still living) - He served in Veitnam and survived three helicopter crashes, two of which he was the only one to live
One of my best friends through elementary school, middle school and high school(still living) - He was EOD(bomb squad) in Iraq. Their armored bomb removal vehicle was hit with a particularly nasty IED and he was the only one to survive. He was sent home on leave after the explosion, since the other three in the vehicle with him were killed, and he had a diving accident, which has left him paralyzed.
