Aren't you fed-up with garbage, full-of-shit sites where nobody actually communicates, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter? Do you wish your old friends who've migrated to those sites would return to LiveJournal? The the_lj_revival community has been set up with that aim in mind, and you are invited to join it. If you are already on LiveJournal and still have a Facebook profile, and would like to see more people returning to LJ or setting up accounts here, we invite you to post a link to this community on your Facebook Timeline. Happy Turtle

(no subject)

9 y/o dd has some mysterious rash that showed up a couple of days ago. It's gotten a little worse, but she has no fever, no other symptoms. She says the rash itches, but I never see her scratching.

I am giving her benadryl for the itch, but not using any creams or anything. She is the only one of my kids that gets these weird viruses. She also happens to be the only one of my kids that was ever vaccinated... She's had Whooping Cough, Roseola, eczema, and some awful infected boil in her thigh.

Here's some pics of the rash she has now:

Update on doc pushing flu vax

We just got back from Sabrina's 6 mo appt. The doctor brought up the flu vax herself. I told her I'd looked into it again to revisit my reasons for deciding against it. She was interested in my reasons and listened patiently. She did bring up again that she's seen a baby die of the flu and that's why she recommends the vaccine. I forgot to ask how old the baby was, but found out that it was not premature. The doctor doesn't remember if the baby was breastfed, but says most of her patients are. I did acknowledge that her personal experience is a powerful motivator and she nodded her agreement. So she made her recommendation, listened to my reasons for declining and accepted my final decision. I know this is a dry post, but it was a pleasant visit and I remain happy with our doctor.
Christmas

Just curious...

I'm pregnant with my first :) and a while back, I was on my yahoo main page and saw an article about Jessica Alba and how she possibly wasn't going to vaccinate her child. Honestly, I had never even thought about doing something like that. It never crossed my mind, not once, and that was the first time I had ever heard of anything like that. I've been thinking about it, and wondering why? I'm not criticizing anyone for their decisions not to vaccinate at all so please don't take it that way! I'm actually pretty indifferent to it as of right now. It's just a new piece of information that I don't really know about and am curious about because now I see another option for when I have my baby, you know? Too many decisions to make! lol

I thought joining this community would be a great way to get parents' perspectives on choosing not to vaccinate instead of some medical mumbo jumbo or something. What are your reasons for not vaccinating your children? Are you going to skip out on every vaccine or just some and what are your reasons for that?

Also, I'm sorry if this has been asked before (I know it gets annoying- answering the same thing over and over again)...if you would like, I will delete this post but please direct me to where the question has been asked before if you could!

Flu Vax

My two girls and I have the same family practitioner and she is really pushing the flu vaccine for my five month old later this year. Sabrina's nine month appointment will be in November, so that's probably when she would like to give it. Dr. J's reasoning is that she's seen an infant die of the flu, so she's speaking out of heartfelt concern based on personal experience, not statistics or what the medical powers that be would like her to say. My three year old will be starting preschool in September so I'm a little bit on the fence. What should I say to our otherwise wonderful doctor? She has been accepting of the vax schedule I have laid out for my baby except for the flu vaccine. My girls are not in daycare and my baby is breastfed. What do you think?

Book/Internet Resources

Good Morning!
I've a friend who's recently found out she's pregnant.  I have begun the discussions of natural childbirth, breastfeeding, and vaccinations.  I have a few vaccination books I am going to recommend for her along with some websites, but was wondering what other references you all would recommend.  I'm recommending the Neil Z Miller books, www.thinktwice.com, and http://www.vaclib.org/ (which has a huge list of other anit-vaccine websites).  I'm also going to tell her about the documentary Vaccine Nation.

What else would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

In another fit of pique aimed at the growing number of
vaccine-educated parents questioning pediatricians about the safety of
vaccines, the largest private medical organization representing medical
doctors treating children - the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) -
recently announced to its membership that it will fight doubting parents
in their offices, in the media, on the internet and through a
partnership with other wealthy and powerful organizations funded by a
pharmaceutical industry committed to doing the same thing.
On May 30, the AAP leadership reports that it met with the leaders
of 15 allied organizations in Elk Grove, Illinois to discuss the growing
refusal of parents to vaccinate their children according to
recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and AAP. A
recent letter to AAP members stated:
