mithun: a dragon from an old manuscript (dragon)

Hi! I'm mithun. This is my sketchbook. Feel free to leave a comment if you'd like to talk to me about any of my interests. You can also use the comment section of this entry to chat to me about anything that doesn't seem worth sending a PM. Guest comments are enabled, so you can leave one even if you don't have a Dreamwidth account.

Here's my fanart tag!

I also have an AO3 page where I post occasional fanart and fanfic.

For anybody wondering what I am, here's an introduction.

mithun: kitty got a mouse (mouse)

Sigrid clarifies that she wasn’t actually curious, she was just asking to be nice. The response she was looking for was “it went well”. Sorry, you say. She says it’s fine; she’s still re-learning how to get people to respond correctly without mind control. She’ll try to make it clearer next time.

Prequel is frequently hysterically funny in a very unique manner.

Swan Song

mithun: Hans from Stinz (Default)
For whatever reason, one of my favourite things is comics set in the First World War.

Swan Song (Babouche/Dorison/Herzet) is an interesting war story in that the action is entirely against the main characters' own side. The actual enemy does not even appear in it. The greatest danger to the soldiers is their own command - but in fighting against it, they too must become enemies to their fellow soldiers, men just like them.

It's also satisfyingly tragic, with moments of levity sprinkled all over it. The characters are frustratingly plausible human beings (I especially liked Larzac and Kazinsky) and the core of the story appropriately bleak.

My only problem with it was that at some points the art is genuinely so messy that it's difficult to follow the action.
mithun: a mechanical dragon from Girl Genius (ggdragon)
I NEED to know who got Michelle's two first medallions. Anthony and Bloodcarver? Eleanor? Vera?

Would make sense to me to make one for Bloodcarver, since he needs to be able to hide on the mortal plane. Vera for similar reasons, but I don't know if Michelle's even still in contact with her, she seemed to plan on disappearing to go sow mayhem somewhere. Anthony would make sense since he was miserable being stuck as a harpy, so he has little to lose even with a risky first attempt.
mithun: a two-legged, winged snake from an old manuscript (asp)
Caught up on Skin Deep. I don't remember liking Bloodcarver so much.
Actually I didn't remember most of the plot very clearly, so I'm rereading the entire comic. :D Here's Eleanor
mithun: Ra from Raruurien (child holding a magical flame) (ra)
"My lord father once taught me that difference is the one quality we all share. Different hearts hold different feelings, and different minds choose different actions. And that is the way things are meant to be."

mithun: zodiac sign sagittarius from a medieval painting (sagittarius)
Finally read Otoyomegatari #14! I can see the sense in Baimat deciding to marry Aigul. She's so gentle that she didn't want to let her previous abusive husband be killed, while her sisters wanted him dead. Seems like she'll be a very safe partner for a calm and gentle guy like Baimat (unlike, say, Jahan Bike, who might behead him if she didn't like something he does).

ETA: how I wanted the horse race in this volume to end
mithun: Hans from Stinz (Default)
Whew, done! This time: hands in action.

It took surprisingly much focus to stick to the plan and draw 31 sketches in 31 days, which probably means I need to do it again.

Snowflake Challenge #14: Make a promo or a rec list

I'm going to rec Unsounded, a long-running fantasy webcomic by Ashley Cope!

No panic.

Hey what if...
...lions were extinct in this fantasy world but our protagonist had a lion tail for mysterious reasons?
...magic worked a bit like coding? (reality.exe can crash too, if you aren't careful)
...zombies had feelings, too?
...every bit of smoke or shed blood was at risk of becoming possessed by bad memories and taking the shape of eels?
...the lord of thieves of New Tawhoque sent his daughter and heir, accompanied by an undead bodyguard, to collect tribute from his nephew in another town, and they ran into a party of slave traders who do unspeakable things with silver from a world before time?

Book 1 of Unsounded is finished. It starts here.

Book 2 only just started.
mithun: the sun against starry sky, from an old painting (sun)
Reread Trial of the Sun and am back in mourning for its death. It was like if a fantasy webcomic had been specifically designed to be exactly the work I wanted to read.

I loved Rennin and Calios, hope Rennin didn't die in that planned rest of the story that we never got. Also hope Eli and Khesar eventually became BFF and Srana managed to do something right at least once.
