Just in time for the start of holiday shopping, The Misery/Love Co. has a something new for you! And if you buy 5 and mention seeing this post here, I'll give you a coupon code good for 25% off your next order! :D

Thus conversing, their steps were arrested by a crowd gathered round an open space where three streets met; and, just where the porticoes of a light and graceful temple threw their shade, there stood a young girl, with a flower-basket on her right arm, and a small three-stringed instrument of music in the left hand, to whose low and soft tones she was modulating a wild and half-barbaric air. At every pause in the music she gracefully waved her flower-basket round, inviting the loiterers to buy; and many a sesterce was showered into the basket, either in compliment to the music or in compassion to the songstress--for she was blind.

"Buy my flowers--O buy--I pray!
The blind girl comes from afar;
If the earth be as fair as I hear them say,
These flowers her children are!

Do they her beauty keep?
They are fresh from her lap, I know;
For I caught them fast asleep
In her arms an hour ago.
With the air which is her breath--
Her soft and delicate breath--
Over them murmuring low!

On their lips her sweet kiss lingers yet,
And their cheeks with her tender tears are wet.
For she weeps--that gentle mother weeps--
(As morn and night her watch she keeps,
With a yearning heart and a passionate care)
To see the young things grow so fair;
She weeps--for love she weeps;
And the dews are the tears she weeps
From the well of a mother's love!"

This line of perfumes is based on the character Nydia, from "The Last Days of Pompeii" by Edward Bulwer-Lytton and the painting of her by Herbert Gustave Schmalz. I was so inspired by the description of her being a mother to the flowers, this basket teeming with beautiful blooms she loved so much they were like her own children, and how she wept to part with them but had no choice. So heartbreaking and beautiful, so very like the core of The Misery/Love Co.'s mission statement of juxtaposing the bitter and the sweet.

She will blindly pluck one flower from her basket for you (one 5ml bottle of perfume with bottle color, label art, and scent of our choosing) and bestow it, her little flower child, upon you. (Note, if you wish she sell you more than one, you will receive all different ones. There are more than 20 different variations and 90 bottles in stock! And psssst- they make great stocking stuffers!). If the quantity you want is more than what is available here, please send a convo and I will set you up with a custom listing with the quantity you want.

Halloween is getting near! It's my favorite time of year!

Updates from your Humble Proprietress

We've always put our perfume oils in these beautiful green glass bottles, but then our supplier stopped carrying them and we, a little reluctantly, went to amber. The amber glass bottles are appropriate for oils and still very pretty, but we strive to do things a little differently every now and again (if we can help it). So, from now on, we will utilize the amber glass bottles, but for special releases we will use the few green glass bottles we have left and... AND... we just got some really beautiful COBALT BLUE bottles. So, so pretty. What do you think?

I can't wait to use them! :D

And thank you for your patience right now with the release (or rather, non-release) of new scents. I'm in the middle of leaving my old job and moving (and house construction x 2 and selling a house, etc), so life is a little crazy right now. Thank you for sticking around. Thank you for your amazing support with the Color line. It's been so wonderful! So, wait for me as I make these major life transitions this summer. The Misery/Love Co. isn't going anywhere. <3

I'm working on finishing four more scents for The Secret Garden, and I'll go ahead and release the names now: The Garden, Dickon, The Robin, and Ivory Elephants. I'll release the scent notes as soon as I'm completely finished tinkering with them. Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer. :D Oooh, also! I'm re-reading Pride and Prejudice and have been taking copious notes on how everything smells. Would you all like to see Pride and Prejudice scents? Perfumes like "Wet White Darcy Shirt" are just long overdue. Just kidding. ;)

And finally, a scent line that is a little further along in the making than WWDS, hopefully by the end of summer we'll have a wonderfully summer-y nostalgic line that, cross my fingers, you all will love. I know I've loved creating it so far! Really fun stuff. I'm aiming for 10 new scents! Don't get creeped out by them! (Was that mysterious enough of a hint?)

And finally (didn't I say "finally" already? LOL), some of you all have been asking to buy some original TMLC scents, ones that I no longer sell. I do plan on re-releasing all of the ones I still have stock in with fancy new labels and fancy new names (ooooh!). As soon as that is done, I'll make a post here and let you know. Exciting! Some of the old stuff is my favorite. <3

Twelve Colors

Twelve Colors Perfume @ Etsy

Initially inspired by the lovely elfinecstasy's works, The Temple of Twelve. I have always been drawn to color. I find such energy and magic and wonder in every shade and hue of every color in the spectrum. I'm drawn to some colors more than others, understandably, but every color has a place in my heart. These perfumes were bound to be created at some point. ;)

These scents can be used as companion tools for your work with the Colors, or if you don't follow in the circles of those who believe colors hold power and magic, you can simply love them for what they are at the core, color scents. With these scents, you can smell the colors. I promise you. I know I'm kind of wackadoo, but this time I'm not nuts! ;) I will be posting a Reviews post for these scents and I hope that those of you who've had the chance to test these already will post your thoughts and reactions to each scent for others to read. Unfortunately, I think these might be a "gotta smell it to believe it" line of scents, but I think they're pretty neat and worth the chance. <3

PS: If you go to the Etsy link and you find that it's been sold already, fear not. I made 4 bottles of each Color but just made the one listing. I have been fairly fast at relisting them, but if you find I'm taking too long (maybe when I'm stuck at work) just send me a convo and I will relist or just make you a custom listing.

Fluffy white wisps of cotton candy, rich, red cranberry, cool, crisp white peach, and true, blue hydrangea.

THE SWEET STREET
There's nothing sweeter than walking through downtown with you. The bakery on the corner's intoxicating aromas carried on a crisp, autumn breeze; the twinkle lights in all of the trees hang low like stars over our heads; and hand in hand, I know there's more than a little magic in the air.

Pumpkin cheesecake, gingerbread, and the gently wafting scent of freshly baked cinnamon rolls.

THE LION & THE BEE
Your smile is like a sunny day. This sunny day.

Fresh, green grass, a field of dandelions, and a kiss of honeycomb from the furriest bumblebee.

THE CAMEO THEATRE
Movies seen here are just better. Maybe because I see them with you? There's nothing more amazing than emerging from the tiny, darkened theatre and stepping out onto the deserted street, just the two of us, the twinkle lights above our heads seeming to wink in our direction.

Buttered popcorn, effervescent cola, and hints of fruit candy.
