Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.

My favorite part is the sink.

Follow up to the other pre-canon Rocky x Adrian post. This one is my own personal headcanon where they were childhood friends, drifted apart for a bit, then met again in college and fell in love hard for each other <3

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

TikTok is a fundamentally evil app however the reason i use it is because you occasionally stumble across gems like the Chinese power transformer manufacturer who posts kawaii edits of their power transformers

Something else I see people keep forgetting: between humans and Eridians, we are the astronauts. And we are good at it.

Eridians' perception of the world relies on something that is completely absent in space β€”Β sound. They haven't been looking at the stars their entire existence the way we have. Their concept of aliens might only be as old as their discovery of astrophage. They made a bad ship, because it was their first one ever! Rocky himself says they rushed it, and that multiple (vital) things broke. Their mission was just as much of a Hail Mary pass as ours was β€”Β they had no idea what they were doing, if they could even travel in space safely. And, as it turns out, they couldn't.

Humans are the ones who have been doing it over multiple lifetimes. Mary is state of the art. We've been space farers longer than most humans have been alive. We can actually see through space. We are more likely to survive exposure to the void. We can encase our lighter, more flexible, more mobile bodies in a material that lets us walk outside of our ship, and, to a degree, we can get our bearings out there in a way Eridians just can't.

Eridians are not looking at Mary and thinking she's a bad ship. They are not thinking humans have no idea what we're doing. They are looking at this species that can walk in the stars, have been perfecting machines to take us to them for decades, have been dreaming about them and mapping them and naming them for millennia, and used all of that to save them, and thinking, wow.

#project hail mary#when Grace first sees the Blip A he assumes it must be an advanced ship because it's so much bigger#but it turns out that isn't true. they got away with doing a LOT wrong in space travel because the xenonite allowed them to#they are much better at materials science! this is canonical#but space? that's out territory baby#like dont get me wrong the fact that their first attempt at a ship managed to survive half a century in the void is impressive#but ive seen some slander about Mary being 'horribly designed' from Rocky's perspective#which is just NOT TRUE!!!!#Mary is a state of the art ship and the only thing we did worse than Erid was not having a better material (again xenonite) available#we are the space farers. we are actually pretty good at it#to a degree that Eridians might even find it freakishly unnatural. or perhaps wondrously incredible. almost like we're made for it.#also it's not just that Eridians didn't know to shield against radiation#they also are straight up way more vulnerable to it for a NUMBER of reasons#some of which make me think what Rocky saw happen to his crew was even worse than fanon suspects.#anyway this isnt to devalue what Erid (and Rocky specifically!) contributed bc i DO believe this is a mission that would have failed#if it was one species alone. it just wasn't gonna happen. Eridians had no way of knowing what they needed to save them#and humans had no way of building the equipment that turned out to be vital#also obv we had our own failures (the comas) but thats sort of tertiary to our established capability here#my only point is ppl undervalue what humanity provided here and i will not stand for it. justice for the in-universe PHM!#<op tags
