So I saw a post about how green yuri anime will be popular (of course) and hoping it would make yuri popular. Errr, I kinda doubt it, because if Gwitch & Tsukutabe didn't improve yuri manga sales, I don't think green yuri can either. Not because I'm a pessimist, but because I think the idea that one series can elevate a whole genre and medium is pretty naive tbh.

JJK & KnY being popular doesn't mean the entire WSJ lineup got popular.

Gwitch is one instance where yuri got popular mainstream thanks to being in the Gundam franchise, but yuri manga is still stagnant. And Tsukutabe's live-action being extremely popular in Japan hasn't elevated a lot of the yuri manga published under the CandleA label. So I think green yuri will maintain the status quo of the yuri genre honestly — like, it'll be one of the popular yuri series, but not enough to cause a huge sales boom for yuri manga.

Ironically, I think Citrus is the one that actually elevated the yuri genre, because its adaptation drove yuri manga sales, and the Yagakimi adaptation just elevated it further lmao.

That aside, no yuri anime will top Kamiina Botan, honestly. Kamiina Botan has actual soul in it and was made by people who genuinely love the material, while green yuri seems so corporate-made, tailored for mainstream audiences.
