Carolina sent me a link to this web site. It's pretty interesting, though I havent gotten a chance to look at even half of it.

Anyway, I'm glad to see a mens activism website. Especially one that isn't a complete douche bag towards womens issues. They seem to advocate equal rights more than anything else.

Here are some statistics about Domestic Violence that I found interesting. They have been taken from an article by Philip W. Cook, in the book Everything You Know is Wrong. All of the information in this article was referenced from reputable sources and everything has been scientifically substatiated.

In 1985, Two researchers from the National Institute of Mental Health, Murray Straus, Ph. D and Richard Gelles, Ph.D surveyed over 6,000 couples in 1985. The couples were chosen to represnt a cross section of the united states and averages were made to insure accuracy.

In 1985, rates for minor level violence (a slap, spank, throw, push, grab, etc.) were equal for men and women. In severe level violence (kick, bite, hit with a fist, threaten or use a deadly weapon, etc.) more Men were victimized than women.

A similar suvery by the same researchers showed a higher level of female victims then male victims. However,in the study done in 1985, there were more females victims than male. So, as time went on, domestic violence against women decreased as it increased towards men.

More than 8 million couples a year engage in some sort of domestic violence. Of that 8 million, 1.8 million are female victims, and 2 million are male (the rest are cases of mutual abuse) in other words, a woman is assaulted by a partner every 18 seconds, and a man, every 15 seconds.

At the university of Long Beach California, 70 empirical studies, 15 reviews and alsysises and 85 scholarly investigations demonstrated that women are as physically agressive, if not more so than men in their relationships with opposite sex partners.

Terrie Moffit, a University of Wisconsin professor found that in a survey of 800 couples, "female perpetrators or partner violence differ from nonviolent women with respect to factors that could not be solely the result of being in a violent relationship." This study essentiall demonstrates the falsehood of the long-held belief that if a woman hits, it is only in responce to her partners attacks.

The most interesting statistics I have found are as follows. An examintation of 6.200 hospital reports and police records, men suffer more injuries from domestic violence than women.

The reason being, in cases of high level abuse (a punch, use of a weapon, etc.), men are more likely to be injured because Women do not stop attacking long after the male is nuetralized, and because a woman is more likely to use a dealy weapon to "level the playing field."

Out of those 6,200 reports, 63 percent of men faced a deadly weapon while only 15 percent of the women did.

There are more statistics I could share, but I'm afraid Idon't have time at the moment. I suggest you either pick up a copy of Everything You Know Is Wrong, or ask me to borrow this article. I chose to skip the statistics that essentially shot down previusly made statistics supporting the other side of the arguement, but I can produce them is necissary.

I hope this has shed a little light on the highly misunderstood domestic violence situation in the country. It is clear that as men and women become more eqaul in society, so does the level of abuse become more equal.

A lot of my friends have recently been discussing feminism and its role in society today. Please share personal experiences in the range of moderate to extreme feminism that you might have. What is feminism? Is feminism destructive to its own causes?

I don't know, just throwing something out there. Thank you for joining, the soapbox is yours.
