Tulb was a Distotian man who served in Starfleet as a science officer aboard the USS Venture in the 2270s.
History
In February 2274, Tulb and the rest of his crew were abducted by Husians while the USS Venure was drydocked, along with the crew of the USS Enterprise. The male crewmembers were placed in thick collar-and-chain restraints and forced into slave labor in a tritanium mine. His shipmate Commander Hathoz suggested to James T. Kirk that Tulb might be able to slip out of his collar because his head was flexible. Tulb agreed that it could work. Leonard McCoy pointed out that he could damage his eyes. With effort, and resulting in blurred vision, Tulb wrestled his head through the collar and freed himself.
He sneaked up on Lubo, a guard in the mine, but a loose pebble exposed him, and they fought for control of Lubo's phaser rifle. Guard Glynko aimed his phaser at Tulb but accidentally disintegrated Lubo. Tulb was forced to return fire and kill Glynko, as the phaser rifle was locked on the kill setting. When guard Ubo fled, Kirk ordered Tulb to shoot him to prevent him from alerting other guards. But Tulb was unwilling to shoot the retreating Husian in the back. He used the phaser rifle to free prisoners until its power cell was drained.
Tulb helped unload ore from a maglev train so the crew could hide within train cars to make their escape. He participated in the crew's firefight against armed Husians and was near Captain Morgan Avery when Husian leader Edrem was captured by Montgomery Scott. (TOS comic: "Husian Gambit")
