Distotian

The Distotians were a humanoid species native to the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. In the 23rd century, their planet was either aligned with or a member of the Federation.

As of 2274, ten Distotians served in Starfleet.

Biology

An uncommon trait was that their brains were protected by their chest cavity. They lacked a bony skull, leaving their heads pliable.

History

In 2274, Leonard McCoy was familiar with Distotian biology. When he and Lieutenant Tulb were imprisoned with the rest of their male crews in a tritanium mine, Commander Hathoz thought Tulb might be able to stretch his head out of thick collar restraints. Tulb believed he could do it, though McCoy warned him about damaging his eyes. (TOS comic: "Husian Gambit")
