Amilyn and Leia’s Awesome Adventure was disappointingly short, but now they’re on another adventure together and it’s even better!

Also, can I just say, I really like Chassellon Stevis? I wish he had a bigger role. He reminds me a bit of Ransolm Casterfo - presumed bad bc from the “wrong” planet, likes foo-foo things and a bit snobbish but will set his stuff aside in a second to help a friend in need. I need more Chassellon Stevis!

And OMG I need soooooo much more Amilyn Holdo. Teen/early 20s Amilyn, fighting in the rebellion, and finding her own personal style. Ooh! Amilyn and Chassellon’s reluctant friendship? Yes please!

With all due respect to Laura Dern, young Amilyn is where it’s at. TLJ kept her intentionally mysterious so as to allow the big Poe’s wrong-Holdo’s right reveal, which made sense for the plot but left her sadly personality-less until Leia, Princess of Alderaan. At least, as far as I know. Did the TLJ novelization give her more of a personality? I know I should look for fanfic about her (or write it myself, I know but I really want to finish my WIP and I’ve never been big into writing in the Star Wars universe), but all of the Amilyn Holdo fanfic I’ve encountered in the wild to date was set in the Resistance era and reflected her characterization (or lack thereof) in TLJ. 😔

And she's even better than in The Last Jedi. "I want to get more comfortable with the nearness and inevitability of death." Yessssssss, I like this one.

Remember when I said I had a bunch of thoughts about Leia's theories on why her parents were apparently ignoring her? Well, before I made the time to write them out, they were already (mostly) confirmed in the book. They've been busy working on sensitive negotiations to act against the Emperor. And, presumably (this has not yet been confirmed in the book) to support the Rebel Alliance. And her great plan to hire as many Wobanians as she could and fly them to Alderaan was not as great as she thought it was.

On the one hand, I am ALWAYS the person who says "Why don't they just talk to each other?!?!?" I do not like when potentially preventable obstacles happen for no reason other than that two or more characters that would ordinarily share critical information with each other suddenly stop doing so for no discernible reason (see: my rants about TV!Good Omens). But in this case while I do agree with Leia's point that the Wobani mission wouldn't have gone so wrong if even one of her parents, who knew she was going there, had taken a moment to caution her, I suspect that they're keeping her in the dark because it's very dangerous and she's still their child (even if she is technically an adult now in their culture) and they want to protect her.

Somehow, I suspect she'll wind up in the Rebel Alliance anyway. 🤔 Just a hunch.

In other news, shouldn't I be at work now? Why yes, I should. I'm on lunch break, time to hurry back.
