Meeting tonight in Watertown about 70 bus improvements

"Find out about measures being considered by the MBTA to improve service on the 70 bus line.

The Watertown Public Transit Task Force will hold a public meeting Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at Watertown’s Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal St., in the 3rd floor Rehearsal Room.

MBTA Service Planner Melissa Dullea will be on hand to give a presentation about some of the possible measures to improve service on the number 70 bus route.

The WPTTF will unveil its Bus Incident Report Survey. It will allow riders to report service aberrations from smart phones.

Other agenda items will include updates on the Fresh Pond Parkway/Mt. Auburn Street intersection, the Arsenal Corridor Planning Process and other issues the WPTTF is working on. And as always, there will be an open discussion for Watertown transit riders to air concerns and ideas pertaining to Watertown’s transit service."

Back Bay Logan Express

Apparently Massport is running an express bus from Hynes (not the T stop, but the convention center entrance on Boylston Street) and Copley to the airport, as mitigation for the Government Center shutdown. They really need to publicize this better.

It's free with a T pass. Otherwise it's $5, credit cards only. Do they have CharlieCard readers, so they can see if you have a pass on a card?

They say it departs every 20 minutes, on the :00, :20, and :40. That's an oversimplification. It takes quite a bit of time to drive the airport loop, so it can't pick up at every terminal at the same time.

I hear that it uses the Pike slingshot ramp in Allston. So if you board in Back Bay, the bus head west before making a U-turn to head east again.

No weekend trains past Brandeis/Roberts this spring

From April 26 through June 29, there will be no weekend commuter rail service past Brandeis/Roberts on the Fitchburg line, and no substitute shuttle buses. Memorial Day weekend is an exception -- there will be service May 24-25.

The T advises people to "seek alternate modes of transportation". That would be your car, bicycle, or walking, since this suspension leaves that part of the state with zero mass transit.

Weekend Red Line diversions for May

The Red Line is running with shuttle buses on the following weekends:
May 3-4: JFK to North Quincy
May 10-11, May 17-18, and May 31-June 1: Broadway to JFK

(Normal service on Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26.)

On each of these weekends, when heading southbound, don't wait for a train labelled Ashmont or Braintree! Take the next available train.

Surprise! T is on a *weekday* schedule today!

Unlike a whole bunch of previous years in a row, the MBTA is running a *weekday* schedule for Patriot's Day today.

This is nice if it means more frequent service on your commute, or that your weekday-only bus or train runs. It's not so nice if you missed your infrequent bus because you were expecting a Saturday schedule. Either way, they should have publicized this better (announcements, posters, etc).

They're not fooling me again -- I'll be sure to check in advance of any questionable holiday.

Summer and fall T diversions

The Red Line is running shuttle buses between Kendall and Park Street on these weekends: August 10 and 11, August 24 and 25, October 19 and 20, October 26 and 27, and November 2 and 3.

The Blue Line is running shuttle buses this weekend (August 10 and 11) between Airport and Wonderland.

And finally, there are major weekend cancellations on the Fitchburg commuter rail, with *no* substitute buses.
No weekend trains past South Acton from June 1st to September 7th, 2013.
No weekend trains past Brandeis/Roberts from September 7th to November 17th, 2013. (I'm not sure what they mean -- what will happen on September 7th itself?)

So if you're thinking of going on a weekend trip to Concord this fall, you're out of luck.
