How is everyone going with their bubs?   Thomas is now 16months (boy the time has gone quick)  we are currently TTC for our second, Ov this month sooo hoping to be pregnant.    Thomas is getting to a stage now where he understands sooo much, not many words yet but suspect they are only around the corner.  Have caught him imitating words so thats a good start.
Hope everyone is well!!

Birth Update!

Katherine Sara was born on February 22nd, 2007 at 759am!! She was 4lbs 15oz, and was 19 inches long. I was able to go all natural, but on pitocin.. I was in labor for 8 hours, with an hour of that pushing.. She's breastfeeding like a champ and is just the most beautiful baby! We had to stay in the hospital for an extra day because she was jaundiced. They sent us home with a UV blanket, and she was only on that for a day! But, she is doing well! Her jaundice levels are down, the pediatrician says that she looks great! And she is just wonderful!! =D

Birth Annoucement

Alexander Iain was born at 12.02am on 7th December by c-section due to non-progression of labour because of fetal obstruction [1].

He weighed 7lbs3oz at birth and has already put on over 1.5 ounces thanks to boob juice! I think he's absolutely gorgeous but then I'm baised ;)

Pictures of the little bundle

[1] My waters ruptured spontaneously at 42 weeks but I didn't have sustained contractions so eventually I tried both prostglandin pessaries and a hormone drip to get things going. He was both in the posterior position and too large for my pelvis and just wasn't able to descend thus stopping my uterine muscles from working in co-ordination so after 11 hours on a drip to encourage contractions I had only dilated an extra centimetre to 2 cm.

thank you!

Thanks for all the advice, ladies! I am still so indecisive about things...probably procrastination will win out and I won't end up going, but I'll make sure to do loads of research because I don't want to go into labor unprepared! Maybe I will just try to get the tour of the hospital, without the class.

I think I've been a little bit melancholy about doing things since we found out about a serious problem that our son has - one of his lungs is not functioning, and this particular problem can cause fluid buildup in or around a baby that can require in utero surgery for the baby's survival - which is why I wasn't sure if I would be able to do a vaginal birth or not. So far we are very thankful that he is continuing to be a cute healthy baby inside me since he doesn't need his lungs to breathe at the moment, but he will almost certainly require surgery when he is born to remove the affected lung or part of the lung.

childbirth classes?

I was wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with childbirth classes? Would you recommend taking them? If I don't take them, will I be totally clueless while attempting to give birth? The reason I ask is though I'm only 23 1/2 weeks along now, I have to decide whether I want to sign up within the next few days or so, or all the classes before my due date will be booked! The earliest available class at my hospital right now ends on March 13, and my due date is March 24. All of the December, January, and earlier February classes are full already! I was hesitant to check it out and sign up earlier because of some complications, at the time not being certain whether I would be able to do a vaginal delivery. Any advice is much appreciated!

And just for fun here's a 23 week belly pic :)

40w6d

And still no sign of this little one wanting to come out...

I've been offered a membrane sweep on Wednesday (41w1d) but I will refuse as unless I'm ready to go anyway it is unlikely to help. However I would like an internal just to find out what my cervix is up to.

The policy in the local NHS Trust is to induce at 40+12 (41w5d) but again I don't want to do this. If I get to that far along and refuse induction, they will do another u/s to check the fluid levels and the placenta and then I'll have twice weekly fetal heartrate monitoring sessions to check everything is okay. Obviously if anything shows up that the garklet is having problems then I'll do whatever necessary to him/her out quickly. Most women pop by 40+16 (42w2d) and I know that my family tend to go long anyway, so I'm not worried. However I am finding it frustrating having to wait to see the little one, not to mention keeping myself busy at home with things that don't completely tire me out ;)
