Aren't you fed-up with garbage, full-of-shit sites where nobody actually communicates, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter? Do you wish your old friends who've migrated to those sites would return to LiveJournal? The the_lj_revival community has been set up with that aim in mind, and you are invited to join it. If you are already on LiveJournal and still have a Facebook profile, and would like to see more people returning to LJ or setting up accounts here, we invite you to post a link to this community on your Facebook Timeline. If you would like to find out who is still using LiveJournal and make contact with those who are already here, you are invited to copy and paste the 'about me' questions on the profile page and post them with your answers to the community.

Be Heard Be Part of Research

Hi All,
My name is Rischa I’m a lesbian, doing research with our community.
I am passionate about research because professionals use studies like this one to make decisions about our health care.

I was hoping that you would want to get involved, especially by spreading the word on FB, Blogs, (real friends) Etc.

For this study, we are looking for women (trans-inclusive) 18 years of age or older, who self-identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer, or questioning (LBQ). The purpose of this study is to learn about gender presentation and substance use in LBQ women.

This study had been approved by the St. John’s University IRB. Thank you for your time.

Tell Obama and Holder: Stop defending DOMA.

Dear Friend,

They compared same-sex marriage to a marriage between an uncle and a niece. Or between
two children. No, we're not talking about Rick Santorum. We're talking about the Obama
administration's Justice Department. The brief the DOJ presented defending the Defense of
Marriage Act (DOMA) in federal court was not just wrong. It was offensive. The New York
Times called it "disturbing" in its lead editorial.

Back in the days of the 2008 campaign, Senator Obama promised he would work to overturn
the Defense of Marriage Act. But now that a gay couple in California is challenging DOMA
in federal court, President Obama has chosen to take action to defend a law that prevents
legally married same-sex couples from receiving any federal benefits, or from having
their marriages recognized in other states.

I just signed a petition to tell President Obama and Attorney General Holder to withdraw
this offensive brief and apologize for its contents. (The website also has a great video
of Rachel Maddow and Howard Dean discussing the importance of this issue!) Please have a
look and take action.

Hi All!

I just created a community for discussions and activities. Specifically discussions about race and gender and sexual identity and how they all interact.

It's got "stamping" but just for fun. This is not a rating community. It's a way to get to know other people and have more stuff to do on livejournal. I hope it's ok that I'm posting this here. I just really want to get it off the ground!

Obama on LGBT rights!

From the Civil Rights Agenda page of the whitehouse.gov website
(http://www.whitehouse.gov/agenda/c…), which was changed at noon
on inauguration day, and includes this...

Support for the LGBT Community
"While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we
still have a lot of work to do. Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is
exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is
about who we are as Americans. It's about whether this nation is going to
live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens
with dignity and respect."

-- Barack Obama, June 1, 2007

don't vote for Sarah Palin

Here's some basic background on her, culled around the Internet:

From the Human Rights Campaign:

"Sarah Palin not only supported the 1998 Alaska constitutional amendment banning marriage equality but, in her less than two years as Governor, even expressed the extreme position of supporting stripping away domestic partner benefits for state workers. When you can't even support giving our community the rights to health insurance and pension benefits, it's a frightening window into where she stands on equality."

From MoveOn.org:

*She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.
*Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
*She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
*Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
*She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.
*She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.
*How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.

From the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund on Palin's "scant two years as governor"

*husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum)
*lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling
*pushed for more drilling off of Alaska's coasts
*sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science.

As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.
*approved a $400,000 state-funded campaign to defeat the ballot initiative that would have banned aerial hunting (where hunters are allowed to slaughter wolves from helicopters)

From U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer

*The Vice President is a heartbeat away from becoming President, so to choose someone with not one hour's worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice.
*If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken. The only similarity between her and Hillary Clinton is that they are both women. On the issues, they could not be further apart. Senator McCain had so many other options if he wanted to put a woman on his ticket, such as Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison or Senator Olympia Snowe -- they would have been an appropriate choice compared to this dangerous choice.
*In addition, Sarah Palin is under investigation by the Alaska state legislature which makes this more incomprehensible
