This weekend, at a random time in the middle of the night that felt correct, I proposed the idea of marriage to Tasia, my wonderful girlfriend of nearly 5 years. Her answer was "Happily".
Now the entire world feels exciting. :)
People ask if we have a date set yet. Good Lord, no! "In THIS economy?!" We will be scouting out ideas and places for the new 6 months at least, I'm sure.
For now, I'm happy to see my mother's ring on her finger, and a Rakitty in our display case.
WOW updates. Much to my surprise I've almost entirely moved to Facebook. Most of you are on there, anyway. Who gives a D?
I will say, as my my yearly tradition to give comments on E3.... Nintendo is a mad genius.
Spend a few years inventing an entirely new audience of "casuals". Make your competitors extremely jealous so they spend resources inventing their own take on the casual market.
THEN ON THE YEAR THEY DEBUT THEIRS, SWITCH BACK TO A BARRAGE OF SEXY REGULAR 'OL AWESOME CORE GAMES.
AHAHAHAHAHA NINTENDO. You bring tears to my jaded eyes.
Seriously, about the only two "casual" games from Nintendo were Wii Party and Nintendogs+Cats. Maybe Mario Sports Mix, depending on how that really goes down. I don't consider Mario Tennis 64 casual by any means, for example. The rest of their E3 lineup? It's like it's the 90's again.
Almost literally, with so many N64 games getting revived attention on the 3DS.
30 days, 30 small paintings. I'm 9 days in and I have one finished (A few more in mid-stage).
I got all excited about airbrushing these, bought new paint and a new compressor, only to realize it's really, really hard to airbrush things this small :x At least I got new knife blades in which to cut masks with. They really need to be at maximum sharpness.
So it's a mix of markers, colored pencils, and airbrush paint. Probably going to learn more on the markers due to the speed of it, but that saddens me. I need to pick up a bigger (in canvas size) project once this is all done.
So that scheme of mine that a change of environment would boost me back into productivity has worked.
Not that this is done yet or anything. I need to add even more frames to it, even though its current number of 12 is the most I've ever done for a walk cycle I think. I hope I actually re-use this a lot in his eventual animated stories, cause... well, otherwise this is a lot of time spent in a one-off little clip.
"Uh, is this going to be aired live?" "No, Homer. Very few cartoons are broadcast live; it's a terrible strain on the animators' wrists."
Sorry if I quote that too much, it's probably my favorite quote from the whole series, looking back.
Anyway, I saw How To Train Your Dragon. It was sweet. I'm tired of the nerdy-outcast-ends-up-saving-town, his-life-becomes-the-norm-and-he-gets-the-girl plot. However, much like Avatar, the flavor around the sour overdone base plot was so good that it didn't matter to me.
I love how memorable Toothless is as a character, but I'm sad that I'm going to have to deal with him on the internet nonstop for the next year or so. Oh, pop culture. :|
During my obligatory post-movie Wikipedia read, I learned that the author of the children's book later wrote "How To Train Your Viking", the story retold from Toothless' POV. That's adorable; I wouldn't mind seeing that as the DVD pack-in short.
I've been kicking myself for not wanting to draw for the last month or so, but I never feel creative while I'm looking for a job. I get stressed out and it's typically all I think about - I can't relax until I'm employed. And then of course, I'm busy working so even though I do start drawing, I don't have the free time anymore.
I did do more storyboards for my Ground Eel cartoon. If I can tear myself away from walking places or playing videogames tomorrow, I should finish them! Then worry about voiceovers and sounds, theeennnn... hire Tasia and anyone else that wants to be an animator for me. I'm serious, although I use "hire" in the "I'm not actually going to pay you in anything other than food" sense.
I'm pretty confident this will hold up as a fantastic multiplayer shooter in today's generation. Especially considering that Halo / CoD / whatever your favorite current shooter is wouldn't be the same at all if it weren't for 'ol Jo Dark.
On a side note, it looks like she's stuck with that somewhat manly-looking face from the wallpaper I had. XP Ah well. It's FIRST PERSON.
Oh right, and it's only $10! TEN. DOLLARS. (You are now reading that in Conker's voice from when he argues with the blue-blooded catfish)
Damn, directionals are even harder to do with an analog stick. I thought it being closer to an arcade joystiq compared to a D-pad would HELP... but it's even worse!
How do people do this for a living? Aarruughhh.... I can't win without using the simple controls, but I'll never be as good as I want to be at this game until I learn the regular controls. >:\
