Today has been one of the happiest and saddest days of my life, and both of those emotions are for the same event. Zachary finally passed away. It happened this morning around 11:45 and I experienced overwhelming sadness combined with the relief that he had finally gone on. I never expected him to live as long as he did, and have been expecting this day for over a year. He loved Jocelyn so much. I am forever grateful that he was around to see her. He loved everyone, and even made people who didn't even like cats love him. Eighteen years, six months. Thats the longest that anyone not related to me has been in my life. I still remember when we first got him. Mom brought him home from a foster home in Lake Wylie. We had just moved down here from WV, in January of 1988. He was supposed to make me feel better for having to move. My sister and I got out the encyclopedia and went to the list of presidents names (dont remember why we chose presidents!) We narrowed it down to Zachary or Taylor and called him to see what he came to. It was Zachary, and he has been one of the only cats I have had that really "knew" his name. He wouldn't come to kitty kitty, but to Zachary, said drawn out into the 3 syllables kinda like the ricola cough drop ad. I never knew then what an impact he would have on my life; that he would see me through until Joss came along. Now I begin another 18 plus year journey, with his memories etched into my heart. He was buried at my mothers house on the lake, alongside the live evergreen tree that was Jocelyn's first christmas tree. I hope he helps it to grow strong and beautiful. I love you Zachary. Things are well on the homefront, and I have a couple of job offers. Nothing close to what I used to make but I can honestly say its been worth it all! I don't want to leave my little bebe for even one second- but we need the money right now to catch up on some stuff. Money is evil. babies are great!!!
I must update more. If I updated half of the time that I play MahJong then I would have a novel. I play it way too much. Jocelyn is doing great. She had her 2 month shots yesterday. We both cried. She is feeling much better today. 10 lb 12 oz. I had guessed 11. It is all happening too fast- She has shown signs of teething lately. I had hoped for a good 6 months without them cause I am breastfeeding. At least she is easy to feed. Joe and I went hiking and camping on Sunday. It was great. I miss being in shape and being outside more. Gotta work on that one too. Weather has been great and the windows are frequently open. The breezes give the apartment energy and life, and the cats are transfixed by what goes on outside. The noises are also fun-right now I can hear cool african drumming music from someone in the area out front, maybe from the park. How sad is it that i live RIGHT NEXT TO a park and have only been there three times. I have a lot of things to work on in my life..........
