Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up. -- C.S. Lewis
I live in San Diego, where I spoil my cats, eat too much chocolate, and read too much fanfic. I'm doing a postdoc in Physical Oceanography at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, which has put a serious dent in my fanfic reading (and writing) time, but I bet I'll still do too much of it, 'cause I'm addicted.
My current fannish obsessions are Supernatural and Marvel Comics, particularly Iron Man, Captain America and the Avengers. In the past, I've been active in Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Highlander, Hercules, Xena and Buffy fandoms, and I still dip into those once in a while when nostalgia strikes. I tend to go by either Marina, Rusalka, or Mariner pretty much interchangeably.
I am the co-moderator for copsandhunters, a fic, vid, art and discussion community focusing on the law enforcement characters in the Supernatural universe. Check it out!
You don't need to ask permission to friend me or unfriend me. I like people stopping by to chat, as long as they're reasonably polite. If you friend me and I don't friend you back, it's not because I don't like you or anything, it's because I'm trying to keep my flist at a manageable size. I almost never f-lock posts anyway, and when I do, it's boring personal stuff like what I had for breakfast or what my new curtains look like, so you're not missing anything.
Some of the fic posted in this journal contains sexually explicit material, both het and slash. If you're underage, or offended by that sort of thing, please don't read anything labeled NC-17.
Warning policy: I don't write about these topics often, but when I do, I will always warn for the following: consent issues, child abuse, domestic violence, graphic torture or gore, underage sex. I also try to write informative summaries that give readers a good idea of what they're getting into when they click on a story. If you have doubts about any particular story of mine, feel free to e-mail me and ask.
