... oh! So that's how you do it. ( she giggles a little, and there are shifting noises in the background as she puts the device to her ear. )

Sorry about that! I've never used anything like this before, so it was a little hard to get the hang of. It should be working now, though, right?

( she pauses, like she's half-expecting an answer, like this is a conversation, but continues on quickly enough. )

Anyway, since it looks like a lot of people are using these... communication thingies to talk to each other, I thought it might be a good way to try getting in touch with my friends! There's so many people here... I'm not sure walking around and looking for them would work so well.

( she's tried something similar in the past with... less-than-satisfactory results, at least. thinking back on that stirs up some unpleasant feelings, though, and her tone sounds just a little bit less sunny for a moment as a result. )

Hm... I guess I should say who I'm looking for, huh? There are five of them: Fang, Hope, Sazh, Lightning, and Snow! If any of you guys are listening, be sure to tell me where you are, okay? And if anyone has seen them around, it'd be great if you told them Vanille is looking for them!

Well, I tried talking to
well, more like texting Lightning, but she was acting pretty weird. She might have some amnesia or something. But if we're thinking of the same one, it means she's here, at least?

Are you from her world?

( oh! well, that's... not what she was expecting to hear.

she fumbles with the text function for a moment-- it's a little too foreign for her to get the hang of just yet-- but quickly settles on talking instead. it's not really evident in her voice, but she doesn't like what she's hearing. so, she sort of glazes over the unpleasant things for the time being. )

Yep! I guess you could say that. I was traveling with her and a few other people before I wound up here!

Hmm... Well I haven't heard tell of any folks goin' by those names, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out! What district are you in?

Um, hm... I think it's called Highcrest, or something like that! Why do you ask?

Well, this place is pretty big, and I hear tell that everyone who comes here gets put into different districts. Me, I'm in Orlea, but there's no tellin' where your friends might've ended up, so if I do meet any of the people you're lookin' for, I gotta be able to tell them where to find you!

[ Yet another person claiming to know her, huh? Just how many is that, so far?

Unlike the others, however, this is someone Claire actually recognizes right off the bat- one of the Pulsians, of all people. One of the Pulse l'Cie that PSICOM had actually caught before that little scheme totally went to pieces as well.

She waffles on how to deal with this, uncertain after what's already happened in this place so far, coupled with the confusion of being so... cheerfully addressed here. There's the option of just texting the woman, but then she finds she can't decide on the right words. Nothing seems right.

Figuring she might as well, eventually she just goes the whole way, her voice exceedingly careful: ]

Why are you looking for me?

( bad with technology or not, vanille can't help but fiddle around with her device in an attempt to switch the video on. it takes some time, and her recording is off-center and a little wobbly, but she eventually manages.

caught up in her excitement as she is, though, she doesn't immediately pick up that something really is different about lightning, just like she had heard-- or, if she does, it doesn't register on her face. instead, she smiles and waves happily. she's really relieved to see a (somewhat) familiar face! )

Well, I was thinking we could all meet up! ( it seems like they could be the only two here, though, so... ) Is that alright with you?

[ If that's 'alright,' it certainly doesn't show, considering Claire obviously seems to withdraw from her own side a bit, brows drawn and mouth set in an uncertain line. ]

Why?

[ This time it's more pointed, the nearly unbearable frustration she's been finding herself in since she showed up here managing to leak through slightly. She's defensive, not knowing what to make of- not just strangers coming to her with friendly attitudes, but people who would have every reason to want her gone, too... ]

[ scouting the area wasn't exactly fang's favourite thing to do here. it left her with a lot of questions, ones that she desperately needed an answer to. why was she here? what had happened? where was everyone else? and what had become of vanille? this bothered her as much as losing her memory and her brand being all messed up when she woke up. no, maybe this was worse. it left her without any control, and she hated that. however, like any good hunter, fang was already pursuing any possible signs that would point her to those now missing.

she was just hoping that she would make it in time before everyone would become cie'th. they all didn't have much time left.

relying on instinct, she ends up hearing a familiar voice which sounded at first as though it was talking to someone. no voice in response. fang figured she was probably talking into a communicator. the closer that she got though, the clearer the voice became. that was when she realized, this isn't just anyone, this is vanille.

when that realization sets in, she runs toward the voice and her friend comes into view. she was right (not that she'd ever be wrong about vanille) and she was so relieved for that. stopping for a minute, she waits for her to finish speaking and then calls out to her. she knew that at this distance, vanille could hear her and see her clearly. ]

Vanille!

( as soon as she registers someone saying her name, vanille whirls around. of course, she'd recognize that voice anywhere, so she's smiling before she even sets her eyes on fang. it's a genuine smile, too, because there's something distinctly relieving about knowing she's around.

when she does spot fang, though, she immediately sets into motion, moving toward her. hugs are in order!! because, really, they can't reunite without hugging it out, can they? )

Fang! You're here, too!

( it's probably wrong to be happy they're both here-- they've got important things to do back home!-- but she can't help herself. even with her newfound resolve, it still feels good to distance herself from her problems, even if it's only a little bit. )

[ What's this? A just-as-cheerful voice coming back to Vanille? You bet! ]

These things really do take some time to get used to, don't they? I haven't really used mine much because of it, but if it will really help me find my friends, then it's worth a shot, right?

[ There's a pause - just enough time for a light giggle. ]

I'm sure you'll find your friends soon enough, though. They all have such unique names, so it'd be really hard to miss them, I think!

( vanille makes a quiet noise of agreement, followed by a giggle of her own. )

I guess they are pretty unique, huh? ( there are probably things about them that are more unique than their names, though-- like the big, black brands they all sport. then again, that's... not something she's ready to divulge to anyone just yet. )

What about your friends? Anything make them stand out from a crowd?

Well, I'm not sure if there's anyone else named Riku or Sora in this place, but I guess some of the others are pretty unique? Olette, Pence, Hayner, Selphie, Tidus, Wakka... and a few talking animals.

[ Because yeah, now that she thinks about it... she's got her own unique band of friends. Huh, who would've guessed. ]
