A commission pic for @binaryjayne 💕 of a very lovely and cosy future fic scene. Thanks for the chance to draw this, it was a lot of fun!
Still a work in progress but i get overly excited.
Fem shep, Kaidan, Jack and James all take a beach day post ME3.
Incase the watermark makes it hard to read:
Shep talking to Jack: Remember when you swore off ever having kids?
Jack: yeah..?
Shep: Did you tell James?
Jack: mmh? *finally looking up to see her Partner has stolen a child and is trying to get said kid past Major Alenko*
Kaidan: Put the kid down, Vega!
James: NO! You're Indoctrinated by the Reapers, Major!
*the child shrieking in joy*
Jack: JAMES! AGAIN?
Shep: Again?! What do you mean 'AGAIN'?
James from a distance: We're PLAYING!
Jack: You're scaring parents! Put it back where you found it! Where does he keep getting them from?

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤️
Thanks for the tag, friend! Self-promotion makes me oddly uncomfortable, but that’s a me problem. Haha. Anyway, here we go. I’m leaving this to completed works only.
Phoenix
Fandom: Mass Effect | Relationship: Male Shepard/Kaidan Alenko | Rating: M/E | Words: 76,392
This fic means so much to me. I’m so proud of it and endlessly touched by the love it continues to get from the fandom. It’s the first long work I’ve completed that feels well and truly polished. If this is the story I’m known for, I’ll be happy with that.
Phoenix is a “Kaidan as Subject Zero AU” that takes place during ME2. Its Shepard is my sentinel/colonist/war hero, Sidney, who I love so much. He’s been with me as an OC in one shape or another for decades, and giving him the Shepard treatment fleshed him out in ways I didn’t expect. Sid is complicated, too smart for his own good, mercurial, and desperately in love with Kaidan. And Phoenix is about second chance love. Two people finding their way back to each other.
Descent
Fandom: Mass Effect | Relationships: Kaidan Alenko/Ashley Williams, Male Shepard & Ashley Williams, past Kaidan Alenko/Male Shepard, eventual Kaidan/Ashley/Shepard | Rating: M | Words: 14,606
Weaving the tangled web of relationships in Descent was hard but so rewarding. This is the third part of my Us Against the World series, which starts after Shepard’s death at the start of ME2 and navigates through Kaidan and Ashley finding a second chance at love.
But then Shepard comes back, and things are complicated. Because Kaidan loved him. But he loves Ashley. And Ashley loves Shepard (though not in the same way, not yet).
Descent itself concentrates on the deep, but not yet romantic, relationship between Ashley and Descent’s Shepard, Leo. In particular, Ashley’s struggle between being happy Shepard is alive and being scared because she doesn’t know what that means for her and Kaidan.
Descent is from Leo’s POV, which I LOVED writing. In part one of the series, he’s not present but haunts the narrative. In part 2, we finally meet him but it’s Ash’s POV and he’s still a bit nebulous. Finally diving into who Leo is was so fun because he’s such a delight.
Scintilla
Fandom: Mass Effect | Relationships: Kaidan Alenko/Miranda Lawson, past Kaidan/Male Shepard, past Miranda/Male Shepard | Rating: E | Words: 26,559
Full disclosure: I hate the color coded endings to Mass Effect. Still, it’s fun to play with them in fic, and when I wrote Scintilla, I wanted to try to make the control ending make sense. I also have a huge soft spot for Miranda Lawson and Kaidan as a rare-pair. I think they work SO well together.
Scintilla was also my first and only Mass Effect Big Bang fic, and I’m forever proud of it.
Kaidan and Shepard were together in ME1. Shepard and Miranda were together in ME2. Now Shepard is gone - but not really - and Kaidan and Miranda have to learn to work together.
But maybe there’s something else there.
Scintilla, btw, means “a trace or a spark”. I really love that.
Blue
Fandom: Mass Effect | Relationship: Kaidan Alenko/James Vega | Rating: T | Words: 3,203
Kaidan and James is another rare-pair that I just really love. And I’m not sure what possessed me when I wrote this fic, but I love it so much. I’d never written James’ POV before and I found him endlessly delightful.
Stand By Your Man
Fandom: Mass Effect | Relationship: Jack/Kaidan/Male Shepard | Rating: M | Words: 7,179
Before I wrote this fic as an exchange gift, this OT3 wasn’t anything I’d given a lot of thought to. Honestly, wrapping my head around the dynamic of Jack and Kaidan was hard. So I approached it by removing Shepard - temporarily - and it all sort of clicked.
I’m a Jack/Kaidan fan, now. And a Jack/Kaidan/Shepard fan.
I’d also never written from Jack’s POV, so that was a fun exercise.
In SBYM, Jack and Kaidan make it off Earth after the end of the war, but Shepard’s fate remains unknown until they’re able to make it back. From there, they need to learn to navigate a new reality, and I really loved figuring out what each of them brings to the table.

this has been a productive use of my time
my headcanon is that james has never served with aliens before, so some things… throw him off.
kaidan thinks this is funny because shepard asked garrus the exact same question some three years ago. only he wasn’t, uh, as subtle about it.
edit: worked on them some more than i intended. better now.
Based on this epic post (x) with tags by @dusterluster because I MUST
Garrus would totally make fun of humans on their own ship and it’s not like they’re gonna get rid of him, because who else would wanna do those non-stop calibrations.
when your friends are hitting it off and you start to feel lonely, but then you remember that (pepperoni) pizza is life
original from here. I just couldn’t help myself
