Belgian needs help in Florida

Please..
BEGGING FOR HELP IN FLORIDA Here's the situation:

I have an offer for a foster home for Lyndall in VA. Lyndall is currently in a VERY HIGH KILL shelter as an owner turn-in which means that he can be *euthanised at any time*. If wewait until next weekend to pull Lyndall he will be euthanised before we can pull him. We can not board him temporarily. There are no kennels in Florida that will take a dog right out of a shelter and our foster who can board them has 3 fosters in quarantine right now and doesn't have the space.

If we stand any chance of saving Lyndall I need someone in Florida to step up and *volunteer to hold him until next weekend* when transportation can be arranged. That is *5 days* folks, not that long. Can you spare 5 days to save this boys life? He has already had a hard life. He has broken ears and has been dumped in a shelter by his owners. I'm pleading here. Go to
www.malinoisrescue.org/foster and take a look at Lyndall. He deserves a second chance. Please help us get him to VA and his foster home.

Malinois mix?

Hi everyone, I wanted to get some expert opinions on my mix breed dog, Monty ;) He will be 3 yrs old in November-ish and I generally just call him a Shepherd mix since thats what the shelter said, and because its usually simpler since Malinois are more rare (at least around here). I've had him for almost 2 years already (wow time flew!) and even from the start shepherd didn't seem right. So I actually think Malinois mix would be more accurate. He is abut 25 inches tall, weighs around 70 lbs, and is pretty lean. Other than his head, he really seems to fit the Malinois standards. And even if he isn't a Malinois mix, he has definitely gotten me very interested in the breed! They seem like such amazing dogs. And now pics!

And this might be a little silly but how do you pronounce Malinois?

Just sharing the email I sent to friends and fam about my new Mal:

Just a note to announce the impending arrival of the newest member of the Westhill pack, my much-awaited, next "best dog ever," a Belgian Malinois.  Currently 12 pounds and 8 weeks old, he is a dynamite package of drive, intensity and puppy fuzz, due to come home in about a week.

Part of Carousel Malinois' most recent "Sun" litter, the puppy will be named Carousel's Oregon Sunshine.  He'll answer to "Rain," but not for a few weeks and a few bags of cookies.

Attached are a few childhood

of the puppy ("Cobalt" by his collar color).

Oh, and we're registered for puppy shower (hahaha, "shower"......) gifts at Petco and PetEdge.  His tack will be blue (to match all the blue ribbons he'll win) and he'd like anything he can chew on, tug with or retrieve.

Tally (JRT), Sammy (Cairn), Sasha (lab) and "newest fuzz," henceforth "Rain."

Hi, Lana and I Are New :)

Hi there. I'm a new Malinois owner. My husband I just got our 5 year old female, Lana, two weeks ago (today!) and her 19 month old "brother" dog, Bo, a German Shepherd.
Our little family is settling in and we're doing great with Lana. She is very well behaved aside from barking and liking to eat the wild hedgehogs around our area (we currently live in Germany). We're starting to work on the barking as best we can and are hoping she will eventually learn to ignore the noises of our building (my husband is military and we're currently stuck in an apartment until we've used up our year in housing). Aside from those, she is perfect!
Bo is a whole other story lol He's very headstrong and even though he has been trained very well, he just doesn't listen, so we have our work cut out with him.
Both were born and raised here in Germany so they know German commands as well as English and respond equally well to both.

Here's a couple pictures of Lana, who is a complete ham. They're from the night we brought them home, but I'll have more once they come off my camera. I also threw one in of Bo just because :p

Collars

Anyone else have a hard time with collars? Bindi goes through so many I think Lupine might change their guarantee. I did pick up a leather collar today, we'll see how that goes. It seems like her neck is just slightly larger than her head though. Tried a harness, that didn't go so well.

I know part of the solution, (complicated issue with SO that I'd rather not get into) but I'd still like to find a collar that lasts her more than a week or two.

Hey everyone. Not sure how much all y'all are keeping up on the various pet food recalls so far, but it's pretty extensive. You can search for a specific brand/type of food or just brouse the current master list at

The FDA's Official Recall List

I recommend bookmarking and checking it periodically. They're adding more foods and more tainted ingredients to the list every day.

"Pet Food Recall Alert Expanded - The FDA has broadened the import alert because of the dog and cat food recall and the deaths of more pets. The alert now includes wheat gluten, rice gluten, rice protein, rice protein concentrate, corn gluten, corn gluten meal, corn by-products, soy protein, soy gluten, proteins, and mung bean protein."

More info on the above text can be found here

Be safe all.

I was wondering if anyone here shows there dog.

Bindi and I are looking to jump into the show circuit in a couple months. I've never shown, unless you count 4-H fair shows in high school.

I'm looking for tips and tricks, any information really. I've already got a couple books coming on the subject, but I can't find anything with details specific to the breed. I know most of the general information will apply no matter the breed, but I'd still like some breed specific information.

I'm probably wording that all wrong, its Sunday, no one feels very well around here, and there's alot of stress right now.

Bindi is my "escape". She's great. It took 5 years for me to get my bel mal, it was a really long wait but so worth it. She's everything I wanted and more. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy working my other dogs just as much, I love and enjoy all my dogs, it just seems Bindi and I have developed a special bond.

I'll update with pictures soon.

Thanks guys.
