We don't see a lot of kids on the show, but we do have a few. Most notably, Billy; or, really, the two Billies! One Billy: two faces, two personalities.
Billy 1 is sweet but emo--and no wonder with the weight he's carrying of having seen his father's murder and being stalked by the murderer, with attendant nightmares. He bonds immediately with Chris, who also faces his memories through interactions with the child.
Billy 2 is cute. And bouncy. And kidlike. And sunny, as though he's never had a nightmare in his life. Or a bad memory! He's a perfectly ordinary kid just doing kid things.

Do you like Billy in the show at all? Any preference between these two versions of the kid? Like to have seen more of him, or of one of him? Less? Or just the right amount of Billy as is?
Okay, then we have pickpocket and budding congirl Olivia, who bonds especially with Josiah and Ezra. And likes stealing from Buck. :) Whose mother is going to try to turn her into a more ordinary girl, a task I personally think is doomed to failure (yay!).
Thoughts on Olivia? Would you like to have seen her return, see her interact more with the guys and cause a little mayhem? Or was once quite enough, thank you?

The only other kid with actual personality and a presence I can recall (am I forgetting any others?) is Eugene, the most spoilt kid west of the Mississippi. Eugene has a silly storyline in a (subjective opinion alert) bad pair of episodes, but any thoughts on him? At least he has a defined personality, unlike Katy in the same ep.

My thoughts on them:
- I like Billy 1, whose storyline is dark and tense and leads to some of my favourite Chris scenes (okay, I have a lot of fave Chris scenes, but really!) as he and Billy each deal with their memories of loss and pain in the abandoned house. Billy 1's story is resolved by the end of the episode, and while I'm glad in a distant way that he's a happy, carefree kid by the second season, I could happily have done without actually seeing him again.
- Billy 2 is mostly superfluous, since he doesn't really have a storyline, but is just there, and sweet, cute kids without a truckload of angst just aren't interesting to me. Fortunately, the show didn't overdo his presence, so I can mostly overlook him.
- I adore Olivia! I'd love to have seen her again, to see how she's settling into ordinary life, how she's terrorising her new schoolmates, hee, and how her poker skills are improving. And I'm sure Buck has something she could steal to make him exercise those long legs of his again in an equally fetching way to the final scene of Safecracker. :)
- I actually think Eugene is kind of neat in not liking horses and shooting, but loving stories, and that he improves immensely once Josiah takes charge of him. He might even grow up to be an okay guy if somebody other than his indulgent mother has a hand in his upbringing! The entire episode's mostly a wreck for me, though, so I would happily dispense with Eugene if we could've got a better wagon train story--which could've been awesome!--instead of the one we did get.
