Title: A Bernard By Any Other Name
Pairing: Bernard!Megamind/Roxanne
Rating: NC-17 (for swearing, dub-con, and adults doing adult things in an adult manner)
Notes: What if Megamind's disguise didn't fail on that date with Roxanne? She'd have invited him to stay the night, of course. Roxanne takes "Bernard" home and things get a little a lot crazy from there. Written for this prompt in the Dreamworks Kink Meme. I spent WAY too much time writing on this for a smut fic. I could have written on it longer, too, but I think that's best saved for a sequel, maybe.
Warnings: Non-violent dub-con. Nothing forced happens but there's plenty of unpleasant lies going on in the bedroom. Also, it's smutty, yet talky. I'm sorry, I just can't manage to do PWPs. I've tried. :)

I haven't had too much to get excited about for a while entertainment-wise, and then along came Megamind. I wasn't sure about this one when I first saw the teaser trailer, but the more Megamind clips I've seen, the more I've been excited to watch it. I'm not talking about the standard, annoying, kid-pandering tv spots that they've been pushing on us for weeks now, mind. Like so many other trailers hoping to appeal to a specific demographic, they've been a wee bit misleading in representing the tone and personality of the actual film. The "Mega Rap" commercial in particular makes me want to hurl things.

Anyway, I finally got to see it today and I'm happy to say it was even better than I hoped it would be.

Megamind currently holds the position as my #1 favorite Dreamworks film so far. No promises that that won't change eventually, but it shows you how much of a great impression this movie made on me. It's a truly mature animated movie, in spite of its premise and marketing designs. Even the score is surprisingly sophisticated and grown-up (which you can really hear during the end credits). It's funny, cute, uplifting, and yes, even touching. As an adult animation fan, I can't say that I mind at all.

WHO DA MAN? TWENTY MINUTES! GERONIMO! CUSTARD AND FISH FINGERS!

So I was sitting here watching this movie that I didn't know the name of and thinking that it had the craziest, most ridiculous, most poorly written script I'd ever seen. I mean, the dialogue, characters, and plot were all over the top and just plain batshit weird. It was beyond being merely stilted and overly expository...it was like some bizarre, romantic idealist fantasy written by an idiot with no sense of subtlety whatsoever. Seriously, this script gave Ed Wood a run for his money for the title of Worst Screenwriter Ever.


So finally I looked to see what it was, and it's..."The Fountainhead". Now, despite having been an English major I have to admit that I've somehow managed to never read any Ayn Rand in my life, and now I'm pretty glad that I haven't. She always sounded like a total nutbird to me, and this story definitely confirms that impression. For those who don't know Ayn Rand's writing, it's almost LITERALLY exactly like this:

This would be a great movie for the Rifftrax guys to do, but it's way too easy a target. It kind of makes me want to watch "The Passion of Ayn Rand" again so I can understand it better this time.

P.S. The Princess and the Frog is amazing and everyone should go see it now. I mean, come on, sure Avatar looks cool and all, but somehow I can't stop thinking of Starship Troopers whenever I watch the previews: BIG BOOMS AND EFFECTS, shitty acting and story.
