tipoftheday for 2-19-07
'Clean' makeup
If you want to look clean, but not made-up, use neutral tones; start with light concealer and foundation, which will even out your skin-tone while leaving your face looking natural.
On your eyes,  apply natural shades (similar to your own skin color), darker on the bottom and lighter on top, as follows the usual rules of eyeshadow application. Be sure to keep these shades very close to your skin color, only slightly different as to allow for s subtle accent.
Smudge a little black or brown eyeliner (pencil works best for this look) above your eye; don't apply any below as this will make your eyes appear heavier, which you don't want here. (also, dark smudges under your eyes generally aren't very condusive to looking clean)
Like everything else for this look, your blush should be similar to, but a little lighter than, your skin tone. Don't put a lot on!
Try to keep your lips somewhat free of product; using plain chapstick usually works fairly well.

tipoftheday for 2-14:
blue eyes
Having blue eyes, I can't use my favorite eye-shadow shade: blue. In light of this I went to work finding suitable alternative which would make my eye color stand out more.
-bright pinks
-natural colors like gold, brown or beige
-peach, which is amazing on blue eyes
-deep, rich colors like plum or burgundy
-burgundy or plum with metallic bronze
-metallic soft coral pink with golden shimmer
-autumnal shades like copper or gold
-orange (for more colorful, fun eyes, woo!)

thanks, kids.

tipoftheday

sorry, haven't been doing these as often as I should... if you want a mod position, I have one open.
on to Le Tip.

clean eyes
if you're going for a clearer/cleaner look, similar to Penelope Ann Miller's in The Shadow with Alec Baldwin, which looks like Collapse ), try using a lighter neutral-toned shadow on your entire lid (after, of course, primer), being sure to blend it smoothly. You may want to try applying a light shimmery gel-like substance with your fingertip to top off the shadow. I use Mary Kay eyesicles, Collapse )which are nice, neutral and just the right amount of shimmery.

tip of the day

tip of the day for 2-7-07:
eyeshadow
To keep your eyeshadow looking nice all day, try one these before appling the actual shadow:

1. brush (for powder foundation) or smudge (for stick or liquid foundation/concealer) a little  foundation onto your eyelids
2. apply eye primer to your lids

these are similarly effective methods to fix your shadow. doing one of these will help your shadow last longer and keep it from creasing.

tip of the day

So, noticing that there have been very few submissions of late, I am making my own.
Tip of the day for 2-6-07:
Powder foundation
When applying, use a large brush, medium courseness, using circular strokes out fron the direction of your nose. This gives you a nice, even tone. If you have spots you want to cover up, do so first, then apply your foundation. This fixes the cover-up, keeping your skin looking flawless longer.
