I have so many thoughts on the 80s and early 90s movies that were "teen comedies" focused on the idea of "here is a teenager who has a very valid reason for being depressed, but the fact they are depressed is a joke for at least half of the movie". Like, kids getting bullied. Kids having parents die. Kids having parents divorce. Kids being forced to move away from their families. Those kids have reasons to be depressed and feel down. How is that a joke? How is it a joke to have a child be anxious or grieving?

My therapist, who specializes in adults with ADHD, recently told me that all of her clients need a three day crashout period after a big life change. Finish the semester? Crashout. Change jobs? Crashout. Go on a really cool, really relaxing vacation? Crashout the moment you get home.
It's true of literally all of her clients. She works with a lot of them to put systems in place so that their crashouts are only three days. This includes the high-powered execs who travel regularly for work. It does not matter how successful or high functioning they are - they have ADHD, and a crashout is just part of the process of living with it.
I'm sharing this with all you ADHD friends out there, just in case you (like me) start shaming yourself if your crashout lasts more than one day. It turns out three days is kind of the best case scenario. Be kind to yourselves!

like it makes me so sad that stuff that’d be recognised as horribly transphobic if it was done to binary trans people (and unfortunately it absolutely does happen and people are correct to see it as cruel and bigoted!) but for some reason it isn’t when it happens to anyone who doesn’t perfectly fit in a gendered box
And the answer is exorsexism! People just don't see non binary people as real trans people or at least not real enough for them.
