Update on the movie marathon to end all: I've gotten to the bottom of the first of the THREE DVD racks that hold my movies! Also, I added a 96th movie. I bought a film called Cutthroat Island which was a big pirate flop from the 90s. Watching it I see it was a great movie with two big problems: The lead actress and the lead actor. They did a pretty poor job, but the rest of the movie was really good.

CURRENT PROGRESS: 35 / 96 = 36% complete

Based upon my progress since my last update, the new end-date is way into the summer :S
Hopefully I'll pick up the rate otherwise I'll be at this forever xD

Moving pictures with sound accompanying it

So I've watched a few more movies now.
Notes: I was reminded that Death to Smoochy is so ridiculously great.
Watching Constantine and then Dogma near to each other is a bit interesting.

CURRENT PROGRESS: 22 / 95 = 23% complete

Based upon my progress since the first update, I extrapolated an end date: May 24th. This will indeed take some time. Domino is up next.

The Great Movie Watching Project

So I was stuck with a small, unimportant dilemma a week or two ago. I wanted to watch a movie, but couldn't decide which I wanted to watch. I thought of watching seasons of Samurai Jack, but then realized I owned DVDs I hadn't even watched yet. Mostly things I've seen several times then bought the DVD and just haven't wanted to watch it again, yet. I thought, "I should watch ALL my movies." Since they're already organized alphabetically, I started with the first at the top: Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy.

I made a few exceptions to the list, however.

1.) To begin with, almost all seasons of TV shows. There's already 98 feature length movies on my plate, so I don't want to add 18 TV seasons of varying length. The exception to the exception here is the Star Wars Clone Wars TV shows since they're each only the length of a feature film and they really fill in the gaps between Ep II and III. (bringing the total to 100)

2.) Then I decided to pull two major things right off the list: Band DVDs (like Our Lady Peace Live) and "Biographies." (like Hendrix). (This shrunk the list down to 95)

3.) There were a few movies of mine that I'd watched very recently and many times before and didn't want to watch again so quickly, but I also didn't want to just nix them off the list so I added them in but put them automatically to "watched." (leaving the total at 95, but starting me off with 6 / 95 watched to begin with)

4.) I also thought of adding in older stuff I have on VHS but not DVD, but they're starting to show that they're VHS so I'll leave them be. Maybe start trying to grab a few on DVD. (List stays at 6 / 95)

Once I got the list, I made a few simple rules to go by:

The Rules
- Watch all movies, in order (except for exceptions) with no skipping.
- If I buy a new movie it goes on the list in its place. If I'm past it, it becomes next on the list (which is easy since I'll want to watch it right away anyways). If I'm not to it yet, I have to wait until I get to it (which will probably help me curb spending a little since I won't buy a bunch of R,S,T,etc. movies I can't watch because I'm still on F)
- No Renting movies unless it's in order as well
- TV seasons may be watched but only 1 or 2 episodes at a time to break the feature length.
- Movies on TV that I own cannot be watched out of order.
- Movies on TV that I DON'T own can be watched as they appear.
- Movies at the theatre are treated as with TV.
- If I'm out somewhere and someone else has chosen a movie out of order for the group, I can watch it and count it, as long as I haven't made the selection.

Since starting I've gone through a few comedies, the Blade and Bourne trilogies and some other actions blockbusters. Last was Casino Royale, my favourite Bond film out of the ones I've seen, and next is Collateral.

CURRENT PROGRESS: 17 / 95 = 18% complete

18%, huh? This is gonna take a while...

I Saw Cloverfield...

... and it was Awesome! Apparently a lot of people didn't like it, but I can see why. They went in expecting a Hollywood Monster/Disaster movie, but didn't get one. In a Hollywood disaster movie you get: (Blue: present in Cloverfield, red: not present)

- A hero (often a scientist) who sees the impending disaster coming
- That hero warns authorities who blow it off entirely
- The monster/disaster starts destroying things and we don't see much of it
- We see lots of wide, well aimed shots of the monster/disaster
- hero gets a "told you so" moment
- The army shows up
- The army prove completely innefective, leaving it to the hero to fix
- someone, often the hero, explains what is going on and has a plan of how to defeat it
- Hero has to brave the danger to save a loved one instead of escaping to safety
- Hero and most important secondary characters survive
- It's shot very dramatically and professionally

So why do people not like it? Because Cloverfield doesn't pull back and answer questions like "Where did it come from?" or "what IS it?" You don't get a very good look at it except a bit near the end, but that's still not too great. Why is the movie like this? Because it's shot from the perspective of one out of the terrified mass of people who are fleeing. It's literally that the character has a camcorder and decides he should keep filming so people later can see what happened. If you're expecting hollywood style, this can be very odd and not fun. If you're expecting, and like, something different this really sticks you IN the disaster. Is it shaky? Yes, because the guy is running from a monster while rubble is being flung around. Does it feel like you're with him, running away from a giant monster? Fuck yes. It was really intense for most of the time and a bit funny in a few places. Overall I thought it was great.

I also got to play Rock Band tonight, but that will have to wait.

2005 Malibu

So we (meaning my dad) just bought a new car to replace the one that got wrote off in December. What did we end up with? A 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx. It's somewhere between a sedan and a station wagon with a 3.5L V6, 200HP engine. It's got lots of power and drives really well. The console is loaded with extras like:
-Oil Life, measured in percent
-Fuel Range, telling you how many Km you can go before you'll run out
-Average Speed and Fuel Economy
-AM/FM with CD and all kinds of neat radio tricks like interrupting your CD to bring you traffic reports.

PHOTOS

Yeah, I don't use this much anymore, but I'm going to put up a bunch of pictures from my adventures in Britain. This first batch are all pictures I took out the window of the train on my way across the country. If you're from Britain, these will probably seem really boring, but for those of you who aren't, this is what you see while you travel.

Zidane Rocks

Now, see, THIS is how to get most North Americans to care about football!

Kidding aside, Zidane is an amazing player, and very odd to see him do something like this, but man did it look cool. He definately deserved to be sent off after that, though. It was a blatant physical attack in a sport that's supposed to have almost no contact. Either team deserved to win and good job to Italy for winning.

....if only it'd been Ronaldo that'd been headbutted... that'd be great.
