The Common Room

The Common Room at Lubricus will be the center of con activity 24 hours a day for the entire weekend. It's a large space connected to the con classrooms where you'll find sofas to hang out on, tables to sit around for impromptu drawing, drabbling, or a game of Wizard Chess, and a notice board where you'll find the day's schedule, announcements, and notices of other fun activities for the day. The notice board will be also a place where you can post announcements of meetups or other activities you want to organize that aren't in the official schedule. The Art Gallery will be hosted in the Common Room as well, so you can peruse the works presented there to your heart's content. Con sessions will be posting highlights of their discussions on the walls of the Common Room, so you'll be able to catch up on what you missed or relive the fun. Bring your knitting, your laptop (which you can recharge at our Rechargio! station), or your sketchbook and hang out with your fellow slashers!

So if you want to organize a meetup or have an idea for a session that didn't make it into the schedule, you'll be able to post about it on the notice board at the con. The con classrooms will also be available early in the morning for any early riser meetups or panels you may want to organize. There will be a signup sheet on the notice board at the con, and these will be available on a first come, first served basis.

(OMG, are y'all getting excited yet???)

Special Valentine's Day Promotion!

Hi everyone! We still have some open spots for the con, and we're having a special promotion for Valentine's Day to encourage those of you who've been waiting to register to claim your spot now.

If you register between February 1 and February 14, you 'll be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate for Babeland, Seattle's awesome adult toy store! You could use it when you come to the con, or shop online or at one of their NYC stores for $50 worth of fun! ;-)

If you've already registered for the con, you can be entered into the drawing as well if you refer a friend who registers. Just ask your friend to note that you referred them when they submit their comment to the registration post here to start the registration process. Both of your names will be entered in the drawing, which will take place on February 15. The winner will be contacted via email, and will receive their prize when the registration process is completed. Good luck!

FanArt Gallery & Craft Fair Information Post

Fanart & Craft Fair at Lubricus

The Department of Creative Endeavors is pleased to announce two opportunities for crafty, creative, and entrepreneurial types to display or sell their wares at the Con That Shall Not Be Named:

Art Gallery
During the con, fanart will be displayed throughout the Common Room and Beyond the Veil, a special veiled section of the common room set aside for NC-17 rated pieces. Attending artists will also be invited to participate in a docent led tour of the art gallery to talk with viewers about their art. In addition, all displaying artists will have the option to donate or sell their art through the Lubricus Silent Auction.

2D and 3D art pieces from attendees and non-attendees will be accepted, and transportation to and from the con is the responsibility of the displaying artist. In keeping with the slashy nature of the con, preference will be for slash-focused art. However, with the exception of explicit het, all fanart genres and ratings will be considered. Specific details regarding the submission process will be posted in January.

Craft Fair
Friday programming will include a two hour Craft Fair for con attendees interested in selling their fandom wares. Crafts and wares need not be slashy and can encompass nearly any medium with the exception of alcohol and non-candy food items. Information regarding how to register for the Craft Fair will be posted in February.

Con Programming Information Post

Programming at Lubricus

We’re planning two general kinds of programming: Classroom Programming and Common Room Activities.

Classroom Programming can include panel discussions, round tables, how-to sessions, scheduled squee -- anything that is suited for a group of fans in a Classroom setting.

The space at the Holiday Inn allows us to configure for either two or three classrooms.  (The space may be reconfigured depending on what kind of programming is suggested and scheduled.)  For example, there maybe panel discussions in a large classroom setting, workshops in a smaller room with tables, and roundtable discussions in a room where everyone can sit in a circle and see each other.

Rather than ask attendees to submit proposals that will then be evaluated behind closed doors by some super-secret committee of selected fans, programming for Lubricus will be organized in a completely open and transparent way!
  • In February 2011, we’ll open a suggestions post on the Lubricus LJ for panels, discussions, and workshops YOU would like to see at the con.  You can suggest anything you think sounds fun, and you can offer to moderate it or offer it up for someone else to take charge of.  All of these suggestions will be made in comments on the LJ post.
  • In March, we’ll have a series of voting posts, where we’ll narrow down the suggested panels to a set that will be on the schedule at the con. This will be the time to identify duplicates or split out different ideas.  For example, we might combine “Harry Hates Draco - Discuss” and “Draco and Harry - True love forever!”, or we may split out those same panels if that’s what the attendees want (and space allows).  If we need to have multiple rounds of voting, we will.  Voting will also help us decide how big the rooms need to be for each panel.
  • In April, we’ll finalize the schedule and make sure all sessions have moderators.
  • In May, the final schedule of for classroom programming will be posted to the website.

The Common Room will be available for activities that are not necessarily prescheduled or would be more appropriate for a smaller, more intimate setting, such as impromptu roundtables, knitting sessions, drabbling or drawbling sessions, meet-ups for outings, games, cosplay, and so on.

Attendees who wish to organize or suggest a Common Room activity in advance will have the opportunity to do so on the Lubricus LJ in May after the Classroom schedule is posted.  There will also be a sign-up sheet onsite if attendees would like to plan any Common Room activities at the last minute.

Non-con events (we didn’t mean it that way - get your mind out of the gutter!) that are organized by attendees will take place at other locations in the hotel, for example in guest rooms, the con suite, the hotel restaurant, the pool, or offsite.  There will be a spot to post these in the Common Room where attendees can also find out about any last minute changes to the schedule.  We hope people will also be using the hashtag #lubricus on Twitter to pimp events.

Any questions?  Ask them here!

Website Launched!

Last week's con announcement was just a bit of foreplay, a taste of what's coming (so to speak). The BF4F WEB SITE has been updated with new content and more information about planned events for lubricus. Check it out, and please let us know if you have any questions (or catch any typos).

In the next few weeks we'll post registration information and some promotional banners and icons as we prepare for registration to open on October 30. Announcements will be posted here in the LJ and will be mirrored on the web site. Have a great weekend!
