we have lots to cover so let's break it down! TL;DR there's new relationship categories for non-binary characters, several new events on the site, and the invite queue is open once more!

so first off, we have three new relationship categories, all for non-binary characters: NB/NB, involving two non-binary characters, and NB/F and NB/M, for non-binary characters with female and male partners respectively. these each have their own category icon displayed in the block of icons in a work blurb, all designed by the lovely steff of ad astra and the CFAA, who has been credited on superlove's about page. everyone say thank you to steff she's amazing!

next, we have several new events that i'd like to promote:

• Rarepairs/Crosspairs/Crackpairs: run by GalacticEclipse, this is exactly what it says on the tin: a prompt meme for rarepairs, crack pairings, and crossover pairings!
• Rarepair Inauguration Challenge: run by lanternglass, this is a prompt meme meant to bring new fandoms not already on the site, through toxic rarepairs! feel free to leave prompts following the event's prompt format, and be sure that the fandom you prompt is not already on the site.
• Pretty Cure & Tokusatsu Prompt Meme: run by croissant, this is a collection for a tokusatsu/precure prompt meme being run on dreamwidth. though you cannot submit and fill prompts for it from superlove, if you do fill a prompt for it on dreamwidth, you are more than welcome to submit it to this collection!
• femslash crossover prompts: lastly, also run by GalacticEclipse, this is a prompt meme for femslash crossover ships! come up with weird girl crossovers and prompt them to your heart's content!

and finally, after months of me forgetting and being lazy and reluctant, our invite queue has FINALLY been reopened. please be aware that it is still very much under the same scrutiny and vetting as it was before. additionally, when you leave an invite request, you may receive an email from me asking for more information and/or explaining the rules & tagging guidelines better. please be aware of these if you leave a request in the queue. before i go, i'd like to remind newcomers that we have a superlove discord, and if you join superlove, you are automatically welcome to the discord server, as long as you contact me about joining, which can be done by contacting me via email.

inspired by walter doing wonderful work at squidgeworld, we have new archive warnings on superlove!

these warnings and their names came after MUCH deliberation on my part and input and feedback from superlove users and even non users so i could be as safe as possible with how i handle this. two of these are not definitive but rather placeholders for future name changes, and can be used in the meantime, but use them with the knowledge that they may be renamed.

the new warnings:

• suicide & suicidal ideation
• self-harm/self-injury
• incest/incestuous relationships
• bigotry
• underage sex

the first three are not subject to change unless it becomes necessary. use them as you wish.

the latter two, underage sex and bigotry, ARE subject to change in name. underage sex is the former underage tag renamed, just as a baseline to make the intended use of the warning clearer. i am still thinking on a potential childhood sexual abuse warning for the site and if it is necessary or not, as a potential CSA tag would only encompass references rather than anything explicit, because superlove does not allow explicit underage sex involving characters under 16. please give feedback on this - i would very much appreciate it!

as for bigotry, the intent is for in-universe bigotry, because the way i see it, any writers who deliberately write bigoted messaging/themes/overtones into their works are not welcome on superlove. this tag is therefore meant for in-universe intolerance and prejudice of any kind. i recognize that the current name is unclear but i have yet to figure out a better name, so please know that this is subject to change.

with regards to the present "choose not to warn" warning - this is an exception to everything as choose not to warn in and of itself is a warning and not subject to the usage of other warnings. it's essentially a "dead dove do not eat" tag in warning form. you CAN use other tags in addition to it, but you are not obligated to.

hello from the post-OTW mentioning superlove world! that's right, the OTW contacted me a while ago asking to mention superlove in their series of OTW Signal blog posts, and i agreed! check out the post here - all three of us who have deployed otw-archive software are mentioned! i am very grateful for this opportunity even though it made me very nervous to be mentioned by such a large organization. everyone say thank you OTW and especially the person who reached out to me about this!

relating to the title, the rules for superlove have been amended. i edited the first bullet point to be clearer and more serious, and though it's less concise, it's much easier to understand, with fewer gray areas, i hope. please take the time to read the new first two bullet points on the rules page. what you need to know, for new and existing users, is that all sexual content involving underage characters is limited to characters between the ages of 16 and 17, with exceptions for brief and passing references to canonical events that involve characters younger than that in sexual situations. additionally, sexual RPF involving underage people is not allowed at all and never will be. please read the rules for further elaboration! if you have questions about them, comment here or e-mail me at my main address. thank you!

and lastly, we have several new collection events!

• Unhinged Idol Prompt Meme Act 2: run by me and the absolutely amazing courtney, this is a continuation/reset of the first unhinged idol prompt meme, with the original meme now closed. if you are at all into female idols of any kind, please join us in leaving absolutely unhinged prompts there! we could use more insane idol ideas to contemplate and write!
• CherryJade Shipping Week: run by GalacticEclipse, this is a shipping week event for the characters of kimberly hart (mighty morphin power rangers) and fumu (kirby games)! though a niche ship, i encourage you all to check out galactic's works for the event, and consider writing for it!
• ADHD Brain Moments: also run by galactic! this event is for spur of the moment, random prompts for any fandom! feel free to join in leaving the most spontaneous of prompts!
• original work prompts: lastly, run by me, this is a prompt meme for original works, prose or poetry alike! feel free to leave prompts ranging from the most mundane to the most fantastical and elaborate. superlove is not just for fanworks, i gladly welcome original works with open arms, so i hope this prompt meme encourages more superlove users to write and share original work :]

so basically a while ago (maybe a week or two) i did some work adding a new tag category with checkboxes kinda like the relationship categories, but for custom options. and i went and added it on superlove for the type of medium in your work!

you can now choose from audio, text, video, and image for your works. i chose to keep it broad instead of using terms like fanfic, fan art, podfic, etc because these can encompass more. also i might be adding 'zine' to the categories. but for now that's what we have.

i couldn't retroactively apply the 'text' tag to all works that apply (which is most of superlove with few exceptions including my AMVs and a mix and some artwork), so if you want, feel free to batch edit your works with the 'edit works' button on your user page and apply the correct tags to what applies! and it's optional but i would appreciate if you would use the appropriate medium tag for works going forward.

i've been doing a lot of work on a brand new comics focused archive based on this same software, and one of my tasks for that archive was adding two new relationship categories: QPR and vs, for queer platonic & adversarial relationships respectively. and once i had those implemented after a lot of fumbling in the dark and wild goose chases through code, i thought, hey, that was easy! let's add them to superlove!

so now superlove has two brand new categories, the same as above. use QPR for queer platonic relationships in your story, and denote them with the ~ symbol. for example: "Bart Allen ~ Cissie King-Jones" is how you'd make and use a QPR tag. for a vs tag, simply do as the following: "Rose Wilson vs. Slade Wilson" and this would make it a vs relationship.

i'm still working out some potential issues with this but i'm pretty sure the implementation went well so we should be good! i look forward to using these categories myself and seeing them populate over time here! i especially look forward to tagging all my toxic yuri works as WLW and vs!

• Write More PR Fic Than You Usually Do Challenge: run by the BEST TO DO IT EVER courtney, a challenge where you write based on the original UK air-dates of mighty morphin power rangers! it's a very broad challenge, any inspiration from these episodes can be turned into fic for any fandom! it's very awesome and i haven't written for it yet but JUST WAIT.... anyway it's awesome and such a cool idea check it out!

ok so it seems like this stupid fuck software doesn't let you have both autocomplete fields and tag sets for the tags in a prompt meme. which means you either CAN enter what you want but no non-canon tags (stuff that isn't on superlove yet), or the admin has to make a tag set and enter everything under the fucking sun at the expense of a free type field. pain in the ass!!!!

so i'll just say if you're managing a meme as we've seen two start up these last couple days (thank you courtney and ave i'm having a blast leaving prompts!!!), and you want to get around either one of these, you pick what you want to do, but if you need a tag added or something, just give me a list and i'll add as many tags as possible to superlove as a tag wrangler. i'm down to do this don't worry about it tag wrangling is tedious but hey it gives me, someone who famously has too much time on her hands, something to occupy herself with. so ask away!

you can also ask me how tag sets work but i'm not gonna lie i barely know how they work i was screwing with them and was like The Fuck Is This Shit

so we now have functional downloads and i feel like totally fucking boneheaded because all it took was installing a missing, kickass dependency: CALIBRE!!!!!!!!

i use it for editing book metadata all the time and i have no clue how i forgot/skipped over it when initially setting up superlove, but the error you'd always get with downloads before i disabled them was related to "web2disk" and after a quick search (...after putting it off for a while and leaving downloads disabled) i found out that was included in the calibre package. so i went and installed that, enabled downloads, and BOOM they worked right out the box. so yay! downloads work now! archive your work!

also not really superlove related but i'm super proud of it: i had this fleeting thought of deploying ao3/otw-archive code through docker. when i first started the superlove project (which it wasn't even called that yet by the way i was just like 'what if i hosted ao3 wouldn't that be funny' and then it got serious, for the record) i tried it through docker and completely failed and went bare metal instead. but it's been months since then and i have a LOT more experience with both docker and the otw-archive code now. so last night i was like, ok fuck it, lemme try deploying this in prod. and it took a lot of trial and error but i did it! and i wrote what i did as i went, so what i did was, once i got a functional archive, i took it down, pulled the otw-archive code in a separate folder, and did it all over again, according to my own instructions. and after some tweaking of my notes as i went to fix some problems, i had another successful docker deployment of otw-archive!

from there i polished my documentation, and i posted it here (it's tagged as 'meta' and not much else because wtf do i tag that under). you can read the documentation here! i'm very proud of it. feel free to share it far and wide, especially to anyone interested in deploying otw-archive!
