Christmas Fic Rec

Wow it's really early for this but I found this fic the other day and it really has promise.

Once a Hero By Northern Sky

It's got me if the Christmas mood already...scary!

Just out of curiosity, can anyone recommend any fics that are post TTLG???

Three Recs

Here are three stories you should be reading. All of them look at events of season 4 from an unique perspective and deal with fallout from the finale.

1. Neighborhood Watch by sedauny is a lovely Rose POV that explores the personalities and relationship of the stranded freighter folk, especially Miles.

2. Yet Shall They Live by tinkerbell99 is a chilling and cryptic look at the messages from beyond received by the Oceanic 6.

3. See the World by hollycomb is an unforgettable and powerful series that examines life onboard the freighter as told by Captain Gault whose experience is coloured by his twisted relationship with Keamy and his strange connection to Faraday.

Science and Magic - Daniel

toestastegood has posted a dandy new fic called Science and Magic. It takes up with Daniel and the occupants of the Zodiac right after the disappearance of the Island and a finer characterization of Daniel (outside of the_constant) you will never find. There is meat to this fic, at just over 5600 words there is enough to satisfy, but still I wanted more. It is entwined perfectly with Island reality and perception, but is mainly so darn enjoyable because Daniel is so exactly Daniel!

Science and Magic.
LOST - DESMOND - painterly eye

The Arms of Morpheus

hendercats has posted a beautiful Desmond ficlet titled The Arms of Morpheus. Weighing in at 423 words, it is a wonderful example of tight, purposeful writing which delivers monumental impact while soothing the reader with rhythmic repetition and tugging at the heartstrings at the same time. Spoilerish ending prompts this warning for 4x13 - There's No Place Like Home.

The Arms of Morpheus If you enjoy it, be sure to let hendercats know. Also, take a little time to cruise through the older fic rec'ed here - most of the authors are long gone, but their words live on forever!

001. when you're dead by slybrunette
lost, jack/sawyer/claire, r, 1500ish
But of an insta-rec as she just posted it today, but, so. damn. good. It's this kind of desolate and needy and lonely, but at the same time beautiful, thing. Anytime anybody writes this pairing my instant reaction is "Yay, Jawyercita!" But this is honestly one of the best I have read. She has a way with these three that seems to get better every time she writes them. Her characterization is fantastic, especially Claire. And Sawyer's voice is spot on. Just... lovely.

002. thought that was a good solution by astra2104
lost, jack/sawyer, pg-ish?, drabble
A beautiful heartwrenching little drabble with reflections on the season 4 finale. It made me miss reading these two. Oh gosh, boys. This felt old school somehow, and it broke my heart.
LOST - Des b&w from the Constant

*dusts off poor, neglected comm*

the_constant is home to an absolutely amazing multi-part Desmond fic written by the amazing team of infinitenesmith and hauntermooneyes called The Universal Constant. An excerpt from their own Introduction states: It's been a little less than a year since all the problems have been sorted out with the survivors of Oceanic 815, the mysterious island on which they were marooned, and its other inhabitants. But Desmond Hume is finding it difficult to re-adjust to life. He's plagued by nightmares and disturbing visions. He always feels as if he's being watched. Is it paranoia, or something far more sinister?

Begun before the airing of the acclaimed S4 episode entitled THE CONSTANT, this lushly detailed and perfectly voiced story is posted in long, luxurious chapters which are a joy to read. You can wrap yourself up in them and settle in with a cuppa, as a real treat to yourself. The Universal Constant is a Crossover fic, melding Desmond, Penny, Daniel, and other Lost characters with the nasty, time-meddling Auditors from Discworld. Don't know about Discworld, or what an Auditor is? Never mind - I didn't either, and I'm in love with this series! Brother Campbell and Mrs. Hawking also make rather important appearances, as do the two baddest of the bad boys from Lost canon.

I can't emphasise how wonderfully The Universal Constant is written, how the character voices and actions take over to the extent that you feel you are watching and hearing rather than reading, how perfectly the Auditors fit into the revelation of what has been happening to Desmond for so long. I wouldn't be surprised to see Darlton bring them into play in the show before all is said and done.

In fact, I keep looking for Discworld book titles to appear on the Island bookshelves!
