It wasn’t until after Emma and Henry had driven away and the curse had been reversed that the impact of what she’d done hit Regina. She crumpled to the ground, her heart breaking.

“Regina.” Snow knelt beside her, compassion filling her eyes and, for once, Regina didn’t hate her for it.

“How did you do it?” Regina asked softly.

“Do what?”

“After you sent Emma away, how did you keep going?”

“I had faith that she’d come back to us.” Snow helped Regina to her feet. “You will see Henry again.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“I have hope.”

“Blanche, I am delighted that you called to invite me to lunch,” Caroline said as she greeted her friend and slipped into her seat. “It has been far too long since we’ve had a chance to get together and talk properly.”

“Yes, I know. I’m sorry, Work has been insane lately.” Blanche smiled at her friend. “I’m sure you can relate. Congratulations on that new business venture. I hear you did some impressive bargaining”

“I can be very persuasive when I want to be.” Caroline grinned. “Now, enough shop talk, tell me about New York. I want to hear everything.”

Although she insisted it wasn’t necessary, when Jane and Bing first moved to New York, Bing took it upon himself to woo her properly.

Wooing, in Bing’s terms, basically meant showing up on Jane’s doorstep on a regular basis to shower her with compliments and surprise her with outings.

There were picnics in Central Park, visits to museums, meals at New York’s finest establishments, and tickets to just about every hit show on Broadway. Sometimes their dates were simple, and other times they were a tad extravagant but they were always exactly what Jane needed because she was with him.

On the day their first child was born, once they were alone and it was just the three of them, William carefully cradled his daughter and passed Lizzie a small package.

“What’s this?” she asked.

“Just a little something I made.” He looked down at his daughter, marvelling once more at how perfect she was. “It’s for her, but I think you should open it.”

“Okay.” Lizzie unwrapped it to reveal a small knitted turtle that was almost identical to the one he’d made her for their first Christmas together. “Oh, William, it’s beautiful.”

He kissed her. “Now you match.”

“Good morning, Raven.” Edgar Allan Poe considered the bird shrewdly. “Actually, I suppose it’s not really a particularly good morning is it? You’re a stuffed bird and Lenore has left us and everything is terrible. I take it back. It’s actually a rather bad morning, Raven, aside from the sparkly sun peeking through the dusty curtains. I should close those, I prefer when it’s gloomy in here. It suits my mood better.”

Edgar picked up his quill but every word he etched seemed inadequate. He tore the parchment and threw it on the floor.

“Perhaps you should write today, Raven.”

“Stop putting words in my mouth, William. I merely meant that I think you’d enjoy the series and that it’s worth reading, just as Tolstoy is worth reading.”

“It is a book for children and I am not a child.”

Lizzie sighed. “Many adults have read and enjoyed them. If you give them a chance, I think you’ll like them too.”

“Fine. We can read it aloud together.” He handed her the book. “You start.”

“It is rather festive.”

“Festive? Diana, Christmas is glorious.” Anne gestured to their surroundings. “The snow, the presents, the Christmas carols, the scent of pine. It’s all so magical and romantic and perfect!”

Diana didn’t look convinced. “It’s also a lot of work, Anne. Mother’s had me up at the crack of dawn to bake every morning this week.”

“Oh Diana, I love you, but sometimes you really do lack imagination.” Anne looped her arm through Diana’s. “Promise me you will try to have fun at Gillis’s Christmas party.”

“No. The coal’s reserved for Taylor.” Luke’s eyes narrowed as he glared at the town square. “Where does he get off erecting a monstrosity like that without permission? I should go over there and—“

Lorelai touched his arm. “As much as I love ranting Luke, don’t you want to watch me open your present?”

“Sorry, I got carried away. I just —“

Lorelai kissed him quickly to shut him up. “I know. Now let’s see what you got me!”

“Whoops.” The Doctor exclaimed as he landed on his back in the grass and started to laugh.

“Doctor, are you okay?” Rose peered down at him worriedly.

He giggled again. “I’m fine.” His face spread into a wide grin. “You’re beautiful, Rose. Beautiful.”

“And you’re drunk.” She offered a hand to help him up.

“Tipsy, Rose. I’m tipsy. Time Lords don’t get drunk.” He took her hand, but instead of getting up, he pulled her down causing her to tumble onto the grass beside him.

“Tipsy is just another word for drunk, Doctor.”

“Ppsshhh. Technicalities Schmechnicalities.”

Rose laughed. “Oh, Doctor!”
