It's Christmas, so I just went to see the traditional Christmas Movie, which this year was Into the Woods. It was... very Disney? Idk, there's something kind of odd about having the parent company whose entire image is built on the back of these very heteronormative, cleancut fairy tales also be the company to bring to the big screen the one show that's supposed to be a deconstruction of the principles in those fairy tales. I won't go into details, but my overall review is that I think the movie has one up on the play for making strong narrative choices instead of being anxious about them, but I don't really respect the choices the movie made.
Meanwhile, it's YULETIIIIIIIDE! and this year I got such nice things!! I'm reccing them here before I produce a longer list of recs, because all of them are wonderful and I love them and I think you would love them, too. If anything unites them, it is that I can say of each of them that they do exactly what you would probably like a fic in that fandom to do, provided that you already like the fandom. They are:
Main fic: Two Monks Invent Mr. Darcy

My summary: Sue Perkins is a hard-boiled detective, absolutely every pun intended.
If the title makes you giggle, then this fic will positively delight you. It has more terrible baking puns than I would have believed possible. And it's got lesbians in it, too.
Treat #2: A Terrible and Splendid Trust
