I just realized I hadn't posted in awhile... wow, apparently so long that LJ changed it's posting interface on me. How annoying. Anyway, this is just a quick message to say I'm still alive. Work has been busy. Long hours. Early mornings. I've also gotten sucked into the visual medium of Tumblr since it's iPhone app is far superior to the LJ app and it's easy to scroll past aimlessly while at work.
Anyway, I'm alive!

Walking Dead
So I'm not part of The Walking Dead fandom, but I've learned recently that a LOT of people didn't like Lori. Um... Lori? Really? We didn't like LORI?! But Lori is awesome. I don't get it. Apparently most of America hated Lori. That's sort of like saying America hates Artie on Glee. He's not the most perfect character in the world, but he's certainly not villainous. He's part of the team!
Why the Lori hatred, America? I don't get it. I really loved how she tried so darn hard to be a good mother and her relationships were so complicated but she really TRIED to make things work in the horrible world she's now in. She struggled. Everyone struggled. Part of that show is watching characters who come from one moral stance make difficult choices to survive. It's always why I loved Battlestar Galactica. No one's perfect. Everyone wants to be a good guy, but sometimes you can't and what does that do to you when you have to make those morally ambiguous choices?
Anyway, I was just shocked that apparently it's a well known fact that Lori is a hated character when I genuinely liked her in both the comics and the tv show.

My neighborhood in NYC managed to escape unscathed. We still have power and water and there's no major flooding. I was worried about branches breaking and becoming missiles, but we lucked out there too. The storm mostly just shook the pretty fall leaves off the trees. I know most people aren't as lucky. I hope everyone stays safe!
If you can, donate blood.
Public transportation is down today until 5pm, when they'll start having limited bus service. Buses should be back up tomorrow. They don't know when the subways will be working again. It seems like most tv productions are still not attempting work. The major nixed all filming permits for location shoots tomorrow. I don't know if people will attempt work in studios.
I have a friend who's pregnant and due tomorrow. Luckily the baby wasn't born early with the storm. I might be spending tomorrow with her though if the baby comes since I'm one of her closest neighbors. Should be exciting!

I just puked for a million years and I called casting to see if they could replace me for tomorrow and they said "no, try to make it to set." I'm sipping tea out of my worlds greatest FBI agent mug and no amount of crime solving will make me feel better and I kind of feel like a petulant five year old who wants her mom and my mouth tastes gross and my stomachs not happy and I don't wanna go to work tomorrow.

It seems like my whole flist is sick! I'm also sick because I believe in flist solidarity. (But no, really, I'm so sick...) I've been working insane hours with limited sleep which is probably WHY I'm sick. Today we wrapped at 6pm though so hopefully a little bit of sleep will help this headcold go the F away.
Also I'm noticing people have gotten sucked into Teen Wolf which I approve of. I got dragged into watching that show, kicking and screaming, and now I'm sadly addicted. Stiles is awesome.
White Collar got picked up for a fifth season! Which apparently was announced the last day of filming but I missed it. (I happily informed some of the WC crew that we got picked up and they gave me a "duh, we knew this a month ago" look.)
Also it is apparently Fall now in New York. Boo. I was quite happy to have a few more days of summer! No more. :( Oh and I've been doing all these hipster roles which is sort of hilarious because I'm so used to suits. Now I show up to work in bowties and funky boots instead.

I'm sad that my show is currently on hiatus but I'm super excited for DragonCon! Nerd powers activate!
My checklist of things to get done:
Pack all costumes (Hunger Games, with all assorted stage makeup)
Find earplugs and an eye mask for optimal sleeping conditions in a room with 6 people
Pack nail polish so I can be sparkly when the mood takes me
Do laundry/straighten up
PAY BILLS. Do not leave the house without mailing all the bills!
PACK MEMBERSHIP (and lanyard.)
Yes... today looks good.
Oh and I accidentally got into Teen Wolf. Damn you people and your picspams. Stiles is as awesome as everyone said. I can't believe I'm watching Teen Wolf. I'm so ashamed (but it's so goooood....)

I have the plague.
That is all.
Ugh, woke up this morning with a sore throat, nausea, and just general not feeling goodness. I was supposed to go to an outdoor wedding and I TRIED, but yeah... that didn't happen. So instead I went back to bed and slept until 5:30pm. This might have been a horrible idea. We'll see. The important thing is I need to be better by Monday because I'm standing in ALL DAY. There will not be a break. Why plague, why?

Worked the past 24 hours straight with just a three hour break between jobs. Been up almost 30 hours now. So tired.

So today would have been my dad's 66th birthday. I was worried I'd be bummed, and honestly last night I WAS bummed. I had a fitting this morning though and it's for a film set in the 40s. I was a little worried when I arrived and there were all of these older women being dressed in house dress looking monstrocities. But the wardrobe lady looked at me with a squinty glare and then came back with an AMAZING dress for me. Seriously, this thing is fantastic. I'll have to take photos tomorrow. First of all it's one of those amazing dresses that's fitted around the torso and then flairs out to an A-line skirt (aka, my favorite style of dress ever.) It's kind of school girlish which I like to think means they either think I look like a teenager or someone in their early 20s, which is exactly what I wanted to hear right after my birthday. Basically I'm in love with this dress.
Then I went to the "rich person thrift store" (which is what I call the one in Chelsea because every once in awhile I find amazing things there.) I feel like there is one tiny businesswoman who cleans out her closet of all her Banana Republic and Zara dresses and suits. I've been to this thrift store ten times and eight of the ten I've found NOTHING, but the other two times I get Banana Republic AWESOMENESS. This time I ended up with a suit which is a touch small but I think I can make it work. There's a pair of lined wool trousers and a pencil skirt, both Banana Republic. And I found a GORGEOUS Zara Woman dress. I think the previous owner donated it because the belt is broken, but honestly this dress is better without the belt. It's fitted, and sexy, and yet still completely professional. It's sort of 1960s style and I'm in love with it. I'll have to take a picture.
Then I had a lovely lunch with my little sister and I was really happy to see where she works and have time to visit her in the middle of her day. It was nice to spend some time together while not wearing pajamas and complaining about how hot our apartment is. :)
I spent more time wandering around midtown and found a nice black blazer and H&M for $20 that I think will polish up some outfits and give me another silhouette option for black suits. There was also some black flats for $12 that hopefully won't give me blisters because they're simple and perfect for summer dresses and more casual business options. Forever 21 had a really cute floral necklace too!
Basically on a day I was worried I'd be depressed, I wore a pretty dress, felt pretty, found a lot of really great clothes for not much money, and spent time with my sister. Today was a good day.
