We now have a very real possibility of a James vs James final, and I NEED this to happen, so we can all collectively imagine ourselves in the position of Francis Crozier being put on the spot by his two besties /past and present lovers over whose nudes are best. How can one possibly choose a favourite? On what criteria can one compare two men with very similar beauty and charm? How does he get out of this without someone slapping him and flouncing away, Miss Piggy style?

let us step back into the world of the terror and feel what it is to be in francis’ shoes with an impossible choice before him

The cool thing about this is that Sophy is a strong competitor as well! I think we, the Terror fandom as a whole, will be in that old man’s shoes soon.

I caught fucking Gazavetters accidentally reblogging posts without the burner on, like they reblogged a post that was meant to be from one of their vetted campaigns going “thank you my friends but our situation remains desperate, please keep donating” but they didn’t log out of Gazavetters and into actualpalestinian69420 or whatever before they did it. They deleted all of the relevant posts, of course, but it’s killing me that I can’t actually say anything about this to most of my friends without being accused of being a Zionist. I literally have a screenshot of them doing it and I still know I would be jumped on for even thinking about the fact that they COULD, potentially, be scammers, and maybe my queer disabled friends could send their money other places. Like to pay their own bills.

(Note: yes I am aware that this could be the legitimate campaign of one of the mods. It could be a lot of things.)

No, it’s not a legitimate campaign. None of that shit is. You don’t need to disclaimer.

People can donate to UNICEF or MSF or some other organization if they care about effectiveness and not their own savior complex.

reminder for the people who think they can report a fic to ao3 for being “dark and problematic” and that ao3 will listen to them and take the fic down

image

*the country in question is china. ao3 is banned there because they firmly refused to remove one problematic and taboo fanfic that upset chinese government.

ao3 was built with the main purpose to be completely against censorship. it was built because the founders, who were proship, got tired of pro censorship platforms like wattpad banning dark and taboo fics. ao3 founders built ao3 specifically to host and give a platform to dark and taboo fics that were reported and taken down on pro censorship platforms.

the fic you report to ao3 for being dark and taboo is the exact reason why ao3 was created in the first place. it’s the exact type of fic ao3 allows and protects.

mass reporting is not possible because on ao3, a fic can only be reported one time. if you try to report a fic that has already been reported, ao3 will tell you the fic has already been reported and is under their review, therefore your new report—and any new report from anybody—does not go through. the only time ao3 will remove a fic is if it violates their terms of service (by mentioning money, being a stolen work, not actually being fanwork, or deliberately mistagging things, although mistagging things won’t get a fic removed, ao3 will just ask the author to fix their tags) but they will not remove a fic simply for being dark and taboo, no matter how explicit or dark or taboo the fic is.

also, if you rapidly report several fics under specific tags / several fics from specific authors, your action can be count as you abusing ao3’s support system by ao3 themself — ao3 may consider your action to be a form of harassment, which is against their terms of service. and then ao3 may take action against your account.

ao3 has been fighting against censorship for nearly two decades now. they know what they’re doing. they know what they’re up against. they have their own team of lawyers to defend them, their users, and every fanwork that is posted on their platform.

ao3 abides by american laws. and everything ao3 allows is legal in america.

so no, they will not take down a fic for being dark and taboo when they don’t break any laws by allowing these dark and taboo fics on their platform, and they—as a non-profit organization that’s run by fans, for fans, on the donations of fans who are also against censorship—don’t have any sponsors or companies that they have to please by being pro censorship and banning taboo fics.

here’s the list of things you need to know about ao3 if you’re new to the platform.

Okay but which fic got AO3 banned in china???

An The Untamed RPF fic with Xiao Zhan as a transgender prostitute. It pissed off some of his Chinese fans and things escalated from there.

ok there’s been enough reblogs from enough people on enough various posts of mine that now i need to stand up for the bitches who don’t fuck of the world. people aren’t writing bad smut because of a lack of having sex. they are writing it because a lot of people have very poor visualization skills and forget halfway through what position characters are supposed to be in, or don’t understand what makes a word a good or bad choice, or can’t create compelling dynamics. i promise that even the sexually inactive, by virtue of also existing within the human form, would know that if you’re behind someone you can’t lick their nipple. and i promise that the frequently sexually active are equally prone to using the word “mewled.” i can pretty much guarantee that having a lot of sex and writing good sex scenes are unrelated. do you think your favorite horror authors are cutting people up in their basements. do you think your favorite food critics are michelin chefs. do you think the people blocking cool combat scenes in movies are routinely getting into cage fights. no they just understand how to utilize tone, pacing, momentum, and the tools of film direction, while keeping action tied to character. like believe it or not this is simply a skill like everything else. idk i always think that that point of view shows a lack of understanding of what makes a sex scene work. it removes the craft of it in a way i find short-sighted. i think people are confused about the reason teenagers are writing bad sex scenes. it’s not because they’re not fucking, it’s because they are young and haven’t had the years to hone their writing craft the way someone older has.

a wise and true post that reminded me of my favorite interview moment of all time

If you live in the USA and you’re pleading for donations to pay your rent, bills, or get food then dial 211! Please dial 211 before the last minute!

It’s a toll free service with people who will help you find programs in your community to pay those bills, find food, and find housing! They will give you numbers to call so you can get help.

It is not 100% foolproof. Their job is to direct you to a program they believe will help your current issue, but it’s still a step up from praying random strangers online will give you enough cash before a deadline! The added benefit of these community programs, which get funded by the local government most of the time, is if there are more people using them then they can get more money to help more people.

You’re not taking resources from other people if you use your community services. Your taxes pay for them. Use them.

Dial 211 first to see if they can help, and if for some reason they can’t, then make your donation posts!

https://www.211.org/

Hi I work for my state’s 211 service. It really breaks my heart how many people only know to call us at the last minute. 211’s can provide a whole wealth of resources to use before things ever get to a cut off utility, eviction, or homelessness!

I can’t speak for all 211’s but most should also have a website detailing all the agencies in their database. if you don’t like phone calls, this can be something to reference instead.

If you don’t have health insurance but you need to see a doctor, reference 211! We list clinics that provide free or discounted general care, vision, and dental services to low income households and people without insurance! Many hospitals also have financial aid policies that can severely reduce your bill if you had an expensive procedure!

If you’re stuck in a dead end job or need educational resources reference 211! There are a lot of programs focused on providing basic adult education as well as trade skills or other high demand fields! State governments are generally more interested in funneling people into work than providing benefits, but you can still use this to your advantage especially if you have some form of disability but are still able to work. That includes if you’re neurodiverse or have mental health issues! Most of these programs are extremely underutilized.

If you believe you qualify for public benefits but the bureaucracy of the process is in your way, reference 211! There are agencies specifically geared towards helping people obtain the benefits they qualify for- for free!

If you need help with your taxes-

If you need help finding a pro bono lawyer-

If you need help finding affordable housing/section 8 housing-

If you need help finding food pantries-

If you need help paying for your prescriptions-

If you need help obtaining disability aids or assistive technology-

If you need help finding transportation options-

If you need help following a natural or personal disaster (like a home fire)-

If you need help repairing a home you or your family owns or it needs modifications to be accessible-

If you need Queer resources-

Reference your 211!!!!!

I had no idea what 211 was before working for it but I wish I had. I’ve learned so much about what resources are actually available to the community even in a ho hum area of the country like my state. I’ve saved my partner literally thousands of dollars just from the medical resources I’ve gathered.

Not enough young people know about or utilize these services but they are there for you!

P. S.

This isn’t an intended use of 211, but I like to reference the agency listings when I look for jobs. Many of the agencies listed are non-profits which, while they certainly are not perfect, generally have lower barriers of entry to decent paying jobs with benefits. The work environments tend to be much kinder and at least pretend to be forward thinking. You’re more likely to find jobs without as many people applying as well, especially if they’re only advertising their positions through their own website.
