In other writing news, I haven't written my Yuletide fic yet. I keep meaning to - I have the basic premise and I know what to do, but yes, writing it down would be a good plan.

My MM fic is coming along nicely, so there's that. I also wrote a ficlet based on the deleted Loki Coronation sequence that was released with the MCU Phase 2 boxed set -- Another Kind of Abyss.

Summary: When Loki and Thor's recklessness gets them exiled to Midgard, Loki finds himself back in Arendelle. But his arrival has attracted attention of a foreign military, something called SHIELD, and this time he vows to protect this kingdom from the invaders. Meanwhile Thor finds out the truth of what happened nearly seventy years ago, just as an old evil rouses and threatens the same again.

Note: Sequel to The Ice Demon and the Hydra but set in the ''modern" era, almost seventy years after 'Hydra'. Minor crossover with Frozen, though you certainly know enough by living on planet Earth to read this without having seen it.

If anyone's interested in joining my "cabin" for Camp Nanowrimo in April - let me know. I will be writing what I realized is a Gothic romance (so lol, paranormal romance is so TODAY, I guess I'm going backward...) and since Camp Nano is Choose your own word target, I think I'll set it at 10000 words but only for the new novel.  So if you're doing it, I'm lizardbeth at nano.  always good to have others to write with, right?


After a couple days of decline one of our goldfish - a three year old named CheapCheep (after the fish in Super Mario) has gone to that goldfish ocean in the sky. She (well, we say she, but maybe not since I think goldfish females eventually lay eggs but whatev) got all bloated (from an interaction with her longstanding float issue probably), and then scraped her side, and then from there it was just downward. Poor fishy. Though honestly the remaining fish have gotten so old and big it's probably better to only have two in the tank. So that was kind of beneficial to everyone but CheapCheep I guess.

the child is away tonight for an overnight field trip and while this should be a great night for us parents to go out on our own, I suspect dinner plus basketball is the real thing in our future. Well, he'll be watching basketball, I think I'll write something. Maybe I can finish one of the short things off my to-do list..

I feel like I have way too many fanfic projects suddenly. Like, the field was almost clear and now, boom, lots. wth happened? (oh right random prompts have turned into separate ‘verses. my own fault for being all OOH SHINY!!!)

And as some of you have heard already, there’s an AU prompt that is just pleading with me to be an original story. And given I haven't had a decent non-fanfic idea in a while that I really wanted to do, this is pretty exciting for me. I wrote a bit of the fanfic version, and then realized that it was nothing like the source anyway, it was so far AU. I mean, really, other than changing the names I think I literally have nothing else I need to do to it. Everything else was already that different. Now there is the problem that the idea in my head is maybe a little too basic for a full novel -- it doesn't have to be epic, but it does need to top out at more than 20K words. So I need to develop it a bit more, but hopefully with some brainstorming I can get it to work. More on that as it goes, hopefully.

Continuity: AU to Captain America:The First Avenger
Series: The Ice Demon Series, The Snow Queen and the Ice Demon and The Ice Demon and the Snow Princess. They take place 150 years earlier, as a crossover with Frozen. They aren't necessary, but certainly useful for backstory and explanation for this particular 'verse.

Summary: More than a century ago, a Snow Queen melted the heart of the Ice Demon. When Arendelle is invaded, Loki vows to keep his promise to her, to protect their people. But these mortals are not as ignorant as he remembers, especially not his new enemy Johann Schmidt. What begins as an attempt to protect a small kingdom becomes a more important quest to protect the world from the evils of the Red Skull. But at least, he doesn't have to do it alone.

Notes and Acknowledgments: Because this runs parallel to First Avenger, I do obviously lean on the movie pretty heavily, including a few lines here and there. This story is, in essence, What if Loki joined the Howling Commandos? Note however that while Steve and Company are pretty much the same, Loki's point of divergence is long ago (as detailed in the previous Ice Demon tales), so he's quite a bit different.
