Benicia BBQ Bash!

Hi gang,

As summer is prime BBQ/party season, The Kimberly Trip has been lucky enough to play a few private parties for different folks (remind me to tell you about the 9-year old that wanted to feed us candy, while on stage, in the midst of playing "turning japanese" at a Citrus Heights house party...true story)....and we'll be doing another "house party" thing this coming Saturday in Benicia.

The kind folks in charge (I'm deliberately leaving names/details out for privacy reasons) have said that if we'd like to invite a few of our friends to come and join in the fun, that you're welcome to attend!...until we run out of tickets, anyway.

So, here's the plan...

...if you'll be in the Benicia area this coming Saturday (we play from 4pm to 5pm-ish)...

...and if you promise to be on "you're in someone's house, who is nice enough to invite random people that want to hear us play"-style behavior...then we have a few extra tickets to the show, just for you.

(Wow, do I sound like a grouchy old guy or what?! Now stay off my lawn!!! Don't make me come back there!!! I'll GIVE you something to cry about!!! :) )

Just email jeffry@thekimberlytrip.com with all the usual info -- your name, email, etc -- and we'll take care of the rest.

I'm pretty sure this is an "all-ages" kind of thing. Oh yeah, and we'll be playing MTV-unplugged-acoustic style! The lasers and fog machine are on summer break for another few weeks.

Details w/ the babbling removed look like so:

The Kimberly Trip....acoustic!

@ Benicia BBQ Madness House Party
Benicia, CA
We play from 4pm to 5pm-ish
$7

Email jeffry@thekimberlytrip.com to reserve a spot, and we'll send you the exact address, etc.
Limited tickets! Once they're gone, they're gone!
It's someone's house -- please be respectful....and stay off my lawn! :)

July music madness

Lots of new stuff coming up to share with ya'll...

This Wednesday, July 14, The Kimberly Trip will be playing in Folsom, as part of those "Andy Hawk Presents" shows that he's been putting together. I THINK we headline, but you'll want to get there early a) just in case and b) to catch the other bands. This is a FREE show, but it's also 21+. Sorry kids...

Then on Saturday July 17 I'll be playing an acoustic-solo show at Armadillo Music in Davis. It's been ages since I've done a solo show -- please come hang out with me so I don't develop a complex. You can be like my very own support group, except we'll meet in a music store and play songs. :)

AND...The Kimberly Trip has another big "warehouse show" coming up next month. The theme for this one is "80's Prom Night w/ The Kimberly Trip". All the images flying through your head right now are probably 100% accurate. We have a TON of new goodies in the works for this show -- new videos, new lights, new songs, and probably 50 other things I'm forgetting. Stuff in TKT-land just HAPPENS...it's like working with a bunch of Muppets or fairies that fly around and get things done while I sleep...details for that are below, and I'm sure we'll send more emailers with info as the date gets closer. This will be not only ALL-AGES, but it's totally kid friendly too. Bring your kiddies, they'll enjoy the show! You can order tickets from www.thekimberlytrip.com, or if you're coming to either the Powerhouse Pub show or my solo show in Davis, we'll have tickets available at both of those places too.

As if that's not enough music stuffs....

I spent the last 2 years engineering and co-producing an album for Liz Ryder...and it's finally done! Her new CD "Ghost Letters From The Sea" comes out July 24th. There are some samples on her website, as well as info about the CD release party -- www.lizrydermusic.com for all her latest info.

Okay I think I'm done. Phew! Details for everything are below. Thanks for listening!

Top 5 music updates (kind of)

Hi gang...lots of goodies in the works these days...

1. People have been asking about solo shows and the solo CDs. YES, the CDs are still available. Easiest thing to do is to buy them via CD Baby:

http://www.cdbaby.com/all/nolanmus…

YES, there will be more solo shows at some point too. Obviously right now I'm busy getting up to speed on things for The Kimberly Trip (and other projects), but a few ideas have come up for solo stuff -- when it can be scheduled I'll put something together and let you all know. :)

2. The Kimberly Trip will be playing in Davis this coming Friday night (May 21st). We're playing FIRST, so get there early! Headlining will be the nice folks in The Common Men. It's a 21+ show and is either free or super cheap (in the $5 range). All the details are down below...

There's some all-ages goodies in the works for summer, but nothing is "confirmed" just yet...

3. We're also working on songs for the next CD, tentatively titled "My Favorite Attraction". On Friday, Jeffry and I recorded the bass track for a song called "Trapped In the American Dream"...and of course as soon as we clicked the "save" button, we both had like a bazillion ideas on how to make the song better. So your guess is as good as mine as to when he and I will stop this craziness, draw a line in the sand, and actually release the new CD. Jeffry and I both kind of have that Mutt-Lange-obsess-over-every-detail thing when it comes to making albums...and with the 2 of us both in the same band now (and both having our own studios to work in)...well, you get the idea...it might be a while :)

4. The video for "Just What I Wanted" will be getting shown at the Stockton Film Festival this week. I think this will be the "new version" of the video with extra footage of various "50s housewives" and other tomfoolery we've added. So if you're in the Stockton area, there's a whole mess of video/film fun headed your way soon!

5. Aren't top-5 lists fun!? Wasn't High Fidelity a great movie (and book)?!

See you Friday!

The return to Sacto rock

Hi everyone --

This coming Friday night the new-wave-nerd-core-not-ironic-but-kinda-seems-it pop
band THE KIMBERLY TRIP will be coming back to rock at the always-fun Old Ironsides
in downtown Sacramento.

Joining us in said not-ironic fun will be DOG PARTY and SMOOOT VALLEY HIGH...yes
that's "smooot" with 3 O's...I'm told this is not a typo, they do indeed spell it
with that many vowels...i'm not sure why...personally i think 2 O's gets the point
across just fine...but then again, i play bass for a band that thinks lasers,
lights, smoke/fog machines, bubbles, and cupcakes are TOTALLY NECESSARY at
shows...so what the heck do I know?! :)

The show is cheap (7 lousy bucks!), but if you have extra time to kill, we've got an
opportunity to win FREE TICKETS to the show over on our Facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/notes.php?…

...trying to cheat by asking me for the answers won't do you any good. Seriously,
I'm in the band and I still only know maybe 4 correct answers on this thing! The
80's quiz the band had before was way easier...I aced that thing...even the weird
question about Lane Meyer in Better Off Dead was easy compared to this insanity, but
I digress...

And if you don't win said 80's quiz, the show is still really cheap, and all 3 bands
are a lot of fun. Hope to see you there!

March 13th, the digital craziness begins!

The not-ironic-but-kinda-comes-across-that-way-nerdy-new-wave-pop-band The Kimberly Trip (of which I'm now playing the part of "tall guy who sometimes plays bass guitar, but mostly just gets Kim to sing 80's glam rock covers at rehearsal"), released a new album called "Generation Stereotype"...and said album is getting distributed digitally via Sony/Red next month! What that means is, the fine folks at Sony Records are making sure people pretty much anywhere on the planet can download said CD via their local Amazon/iTunes-type store. Impressive, no?

But wait there's more!

To celebrate said Sony-digital-worldwide-craziness, we (The Kimberly Trip) are hosting a "digital launch party". It's just like a 'CD release party' except this time the "cd" being "released" is bunches of 1's and 0's floating around the interwebs, rather than a physical CD. But still pretty cool, especially considering there was more involved here than just me ripping the CD down to MP3s....we somehow got Sony to rip the CD down to MP3s for us! :)

ANYWAY...the "digital-cd-launch-not-sure-what-to-call-it" party/show is happening next month here in Sacramento. Opening for us will be special guest ALICIYA ANGEL. It will include all the usual things from a big "evening with The Kimberly Trip" show, plus lots of new videos, lights, and quite literally more surprises than I can keep track of...seriously...every time I go to rehearsal Jeffry is like "hey did i tell you about this thing yet?" and I'm like "no way?! how are we going to pull THAT off?"...he just sits around coming up with idea after idea....I don't think he sleeps...either that or we should definitely be getting an endorsement deal from Red Bull any day now.

Where was I? ah yes....the show....it's next month...and it's an advance-ticket ONLY kind of thing. No slacking and buying tickets at the door. You HAVE to buy your tickets in advance, but they've...err...we've made that really easy. Just go here:

Playing bass for The Kimberly Trip

I've been quiet because I couldn't say much about what I've been working on lately (and also because I've been too slammed to get on LJ much)...but now the proverbial cat is out of the bag...

I joined The Kimberly Trip as their new bassist. My first show w/ the band will be February 2nd @ The Boardwalk, opening for BOWLING FOR SOUP. If you'd like to come, PLEASE buy your tickets from a member of The Kimberly Trip so we get credit for the attendance! I'll even throw in a free Kimberly Trip CD with the ticket!

There are some other goodies, shows, new songs, and more surprises in the works, I'll try to be better about posting updates here.

Come rock with us, give to charity, say bye to Julie

I just got added to a charity show tomorrow night. Julie (from Squish The Bad Man, Ahoy, and lots of other projects too) is coordinating it. This is also her send-off before she moves away. So there's 2 good reasons to come before we've even considered how many bands are playing this thing...The Inversions, The Only Men, Ross Hammond, The Polymers and lots more, the money goes to charity, and it's only five bucks!

Hope to see you there!

Hi, shows, twitter, and other fun stuffs.

Hi gang...

It's been a while. Lots of projects and things going on. Still writing songs for the new CD, lots of stuff in the studio, talking to other bands that might need guitar/keyboard guys, and generally trying to stay busy and out of trouble... :)

For the local Sacto folks, I have a solo show this Saturday night with TOUGH LUXURY (ex Radio Cure, ex UVR) and MIDNIGHT STRANGERS. I know very little about Midnight Strangers, but the Tough Luxury dudes are quite enjoyable....and for three lousy bucks, how can you go wrong? :)

And there's a twitter page now -- add "nolanmusic" if you're into that sort of thing. There's not much there now; as soon as I find a twitter client i like, hopefully that'll change. There are also pages on ReverbNation and Last.fm now too. (Thanks to Hannah Assistant Extraordinaire for setting all that up.)

See ya Saturday...

Hi everyone!

This Tuesday night at 8pm I'm going to host a "local music" show on KDVS radio. We'll be playing music by bands from the Sacramento/Davis area, and babbling in between about whatever local music trivia I can think to provide. No confirmed shows to announce yet, but I'm working on getting some other music projects going. Hopefully more info on that later in the summer.
