Challenge #2

🙃 Love this challenge, but man I'm about to age myself.
I got into fandom in high school, freshman or sophomore year, and it started with an old cartoon the New Adventures of Jonny Quest. I was a baby in Yahoo groups -- I wrote a few fic, but I commented on every. single. fic. that came into my inbox. I think JQ began my love of reading fic, I wasn't an avid reader growing up but suddenly I had a library of works dedicated to my characters in my situations.
Then I moved to Sailor Moon -- I was a pretty active member of the ASMR (A Sailor Moon Romance board). I was actively writing fic, reading fic, participating on the board. I think that my was heyday of fandom - I've never been a BNF but I was back then, LOL.
Then moved to LJ and LotR when the movies came out. I think this was when I started doubting my writing and school/real life began being more serious. I left LotR and moved onto Supernatural.
SPN was a new beast -- it was big and active and pretty overwhelming. This was also my introduction to AO3. I was too overwhelmed and timid and introverted to really get out there -- so I lurked. I wrote one fic and posted it but that was it.
Somewhere along the line I dipped my toes in Stargate Atlantis. I wrote at least one fic -- under a different name and I only remembered the fic when I found it on a SGA archive and realized the fic hit every one of my kinks .... read the author's name and slipped out but clapped myself on the back. I wasn't active. I think the SPN fandom was just too big and I became too shy to really interact in any fandom.
After this I left fandom for a bit then a friend asked me to join a challenge from Teen Wolf, which I'd never seen. I got into TW for a couple of seasons. TW wasn't a good fandom for me and wasn't a good fandom to come back into fandom for. I loved the characters but I wasn't having fun. Although, ironically because of the challenge (done two years in a row) TW is my biggest fandom on AO3.
After that I left fandom and writing fic for a few years, I tried original writing but didn't do much with it. Tried to get into The Librarians fandom wasn't as active as I'd hoped. Then stopped trying for fandom.
Then recently as an escape from school and stress I started rewatching SG-1 and SGA and my love for both shows came flooding back. I loved SG-1 when it aired and, god, the ships and possibilities. SGA was my gateway into the Stargate fandom and my rewatch of that ignited my McShepper heart and that's where I've been for the past few months. :) Happily in my corner of the internet and AO3 with McShep and friends.
And that *gestures* is my fandom history*.
*I've ignored books and movies because I haven't ever really done the fandom thing for either

I always got such a warm feeling from SGA fandom. It felt like everybody was just there to have a good time, not taking it too seriously. (I'm probably wrong, and there was lots of wank, but I don't remember it. *g*)

Date: 2020-01-03 11:52 pm (UTC)even if that someone is youSGA is definitely a good fandom to come back to "fandom" in. It's pretty chill and, I think because the show is over there isn't the drama or attitude that I've seen n other fandoms.

Date: 2020-01-12 03:57 pm (UTC)But, yeah, I mentioned to someone else - I understand why Librarians didn't have a bigger fan response but the mythos of the show was so large I feel like it could have been an incredible sandbox to play in.
