It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. I watched 'Project Hail Mary' with my (conservative) grandparents and at the end I was talking about how I liked that there was no weird romance subplot. My Grammy immediately argued that "Yes there was", my initial thought was that she meant between Stratt and Grace so my sister and I both started to disagree until she said "Yeah, they were both willing to die for each other" at which point we realized our Grandmother was a Grace/Rocky shipper...

Just realised I follow three different nonbinary people named Maia. The nickels keep rolling in.

Some speculative eridian biology and technology! This started with me trying to explain Rocky's 2 missing claws in the movie, since he has 5 in the book, and it kinda got away from me lmao.

I can't get over how perfectly Grace was the answer to Rocky's every problem.

Stuck in space trying to solve a crisis without any progress? This guy has all the knowledge and equipment to make your perfect counterpart. Together you start to work on the problem and make progress at breakneck speed.

Feeling like a complete failure as an engineer when all the science equipment on your ship breaks down and you can't fix? Grace is amazed by everything you do, he calls you a genius and the best engineer he's ever known. Your work together constantly requires your engineering skills, and you keep succeeding. You are useful, needed, essential for the mission.

You can fulfill your biological need to guard someone's sleep, but you don't need to worry if this one is ever going to wake up.

Stuck in a rut for decades, doing the same things over and over until you can't stop? Suddenly your world is full of sound, life, new and exciting things. Your mind is not just woken up, but working on overdrive. So many new things to learn and discover! Not only that, the alien creature thinks you are the most fascinating thing in the universe and wants to know everything about you.

And the cherry on top? When you discuss the meaning of names, you learn this fucker is called Grace. A mercy, favor, blessing from god, deliverance from suffering.

Seriously, if you didn't bring this creature back home, you would have been tempted to believe your traumatized mind just made him up. Grace a bit too perfect to be true.

parents are allowed to straight-up torture their kids with zero consequences. they can withhold food and water, lock you out of shelter, confiscate your belongings, bar you from human contact, attack and harm you and exert complete control over your physical appearance. and this is just the norm. if you speak out against it you're seen as a delinquent or a predator. even otherwise progressive people get uncomfortable with the idea of dismantling the nuclear family unit because they still see it as the best way to keep kids safe when that simply couldn't be further from the truth. it's evil.
