Summary: Minato was unable to catch even a moment of rest.

Minato was unable to catch even a moment of rest. It was his fourth attempt to sleep tonight, flashes of what happened a decade ago intruded the world of his dreams. Perfect recreations of what he witnessed, and everything he lost that day.

He put his head in his hands, feeling a cold sweat wash over him. His breathing was labored as he tried to calm himself down to little results. A voice echoed in his ears. Telling him how it was all his fault. That he was the reason their entire generations was wiped off the map. That a monster like him didn’t deserve to have survived—

Then a voice broke through the darkness, bringing him back to earth.

“Senpai…”

It was Spanner, who looked over at him with a concerned expression as he sat up next to him on the bed. As if he knew what was happening.

And with how close they were, he certainly did. It wasn’t uncommon for Minato to experience these sorts of nightmares. But before Spanner, he had to deal with it all on his own.

Now he wasn’t alone.

Spanner reached out his hand and gently rested it upon Minato’s shoulder. “Do you want me to get you some water?”

Minato nodded. “That would be nice, yes.”

A few moments later he was given a glass. As he took a sip Spanner spoke up.

“I’m here for you.”

It was a few simple words, but it meant the whole world to Minato. With Spanner by his side he felt safe, at ease.

Minato couldn’t help but bring Spanner into his embrace, holding him close and tight. Taking in Spanner’s warmth. Minato could feel his muscles begin to relax, and his body beginning to lose the tension that constricted him.

“Thank you, Spanner.”
