Just got back home from my friend's place. :D Kaiju Brooklyn was amazing this year! This is my second time going and I this time I opted to go both days and ended up staying at my friend's house for Friday-Monday. It was so much fun, the energy and vibes of this con are immaculate.
My body is still a little sore but I have the energy to make a roundup post after a good nap! Though this will be text only, and I plan to share photos in a future fannish fifty entry. It'll be easier that way. (EDIT: You can find them here!)
As usual, A bullet point list of things:
- Along with seeing the two friends I met last year, I got to meet someone else for the first time!! It was so exciting and she gave me a titan kuuga keychain.
- I went as Hotaro and finally got to be in my alchemist outfit cosplay! People were seriously so kind and I got a ton of compliments, plus a lot of people wanted to take pictures with me. Hopper1 was a hit once again too!
- Before the con we went to Taco bell on both days and I got to try the breakfast crunchwrap, I liked it! Also took some silly pics of me in cosplay with it.
- Industry City had a nice breeze in the courtyard areas which was great for all the cosplayers, lol.
- Both my Gotchard ita bag and ita backpacks were hits too!
- The con is definitely less busy on Sunday, which is nice because I was super sore on that day because of carrying my things.
- I got to talk with multiple people about Gotchard, and there were many Spanner and Rinne enjoyers. Which warms my heart given the state of the online fandom. I love seeing my people.
- I gave out chemy cards and two small machiboke Zerorider figures to two different Zeztz cosplayers! Their reactions were so funny. XD (If you know, you know.) Alas I was the only Gotchard cosplayer there from what I can see so I will save the machiboke Gotchards for future cons.
- I got to take part in some cosplay photoshoots! That's another reason why I wanna wait to show pics, some of them are still being worked on. It feels SO awesome to have nice pictures taken of me.
- People are also so supportive of cosplay at all skill levels at this con. It's just such a wonderful vibe.
- I got some awesome merch in the Vendor's hall! As well as at book off and daiso. I will definitely add a pic in the pictures post.
- Some cosplayers I took photos with: Beroba, Geki Yellow, Neon/Na-go, Kenzaki, Ichigo, Tackle, and Ultraman Zero!!
- Other cool cosplays I saw: The tiniest Ultraman, Redman, A 60s Godzilla, Emu Hojo, Daimajin, Lizel and Jeebh, Shouma, A suited Zeztz cosplay, Takumi!
- I had so much fun in the cosplay contest, I didn't win but I wasn't there to win. I wanted to showcase my cosplay and do a henshin. And man the cheers from the crowd when I did it was awesome! Sadly I forgot my Hopper1 and Steamliner cards at home even with triple checking before I left, so I used Antrooper and Wrestler G. Someone after the fact told me I was so cool in the contest and I'm still touched.
- There was a fun stamp rally! All the stickers that were the prizes are NYC themed, and its just adorable.
- I got so many freebies too! Stickers a small finger puppet, a pin and charm, and even pins of Three and Lord Three from Zeztz someone wanted to give away.
- On Sunday my friends and I went to feed a swan at a local park and it was so beautiful! He really enjoyed those oats.
- There were some train delays and even at one point a bus just drove straight past us and ignored us, same for multiple other stops according to this one lady. Thankfully we were right by the subway at least.
- Got to have Yakitori for the first time and it was so tasty!
- Took a lot of fun photos myself as well. :D My favorite one was the one I took with Oronamin C (the last one in the store too!) doing the drinking pose from the commercials.
- Went to the Fuwa meetup on Saturday and it was so fun seeing everyone's toys and plushies!! The cheers I got when taking out the plushies I was going to add to the pile were so nice.
I'm still blown away by just how sweet people are at this con. IRL Toku con fandom is just so kind and its very healing to be in these spaces. I had an absolute blast and am so excited to go again next year!
I'll be going to ANYC as my next con (Unless I find any other small cons to go to in between) in August and seeing even more of my friends then, and I'm just so excited for that.
