I went to Kaiju Brooklyn over the weekend and had such an amazing time. Now that my body isn't sore I can have the time to make a post about my time there!

A bullet point list of things (Pics at the end):

  • I was finally able to meet two of my toku friends: [personal profile] neckspike and someone else who doesn't have a DW. It was so awesome to finally see them! Neck gave me a OOO badge as well as got me a Gochizo plush pin, and Aqua gave me a mini I heart NY bag and a little eraseroid from Go-Busters.
  • I got to go in my Hotaro cosplay again!! It was a hit, and my Hopper1 plush was a massive hit. Even with folks who haven't seen the show! People love this little guy and it warmed my heart.
  • Industry city in NY is really nice, this was my first time being there and it was a great venue for a con. Japan Village is also super nice and full of cool stuff and I can't wait to go again sometime.
  • The Daiso and Book Off were especially fun to explore. I even got an itabag and a smaller one at the daiso to use for my Gotchard itabag I've been planning! Still need to figure out what to do with the smaller one. The bandai namco store was a bit disappointing because of how overpriced the gashapon were though.
  • It was great to talk to many various tokusatsu fans. Either they be attendees or vendors.
  • Someone did the Gotchard alchemy hand symbol once they saw me too! Of course I did it back.
  • Ended up joining the cosplay contest! One of the cosplay guests said I should, so I figured why not. :D I didn't win, but I didn't enter to. I just mainly wanted an excuse to use my Gotchadriver! XD People were really hyped when I did the transformation, which was really fun. A mothra (on stilts!), Godzilla, and Jet Jaguar won. There were so many incredible cosplays.
  • Before the contest me and a bunch of other cosplayers were trying to do the Gavv OP hand dance for a video. And then some other cosplayers did some sentai dances for fun! (Boonboomger, Gozyuger)
  • A Keiwa cosplayer I met gave me a little Pudding Custom Gavv charm! It looks like a little pudding container, and has a pudding squishy inside. They also had one for Jelly Custom too.
  • Got some Oronamin C in Japan Village and just had to take a selfie with it! Cause of the rider promos with the drink for the uninitiated.
  • Cheered on a child and parent who were singing karaoke in the lounge.
  • Other cosplays I saw: Boon Orange, Rita/Papillon Ohger, Michinaga, Biolante, OG Ultraman, Geed/Riku, and an amazing Kamen Rider Blade.
  • The Blade cosplayer wanted to take a picture with me too! So that made me super happy.
  • There was a Fuwa (Nickname for Ultraman soft chibi plushie) meetup at sometime before the Arc movie screening, and one of the guests Klenda invited me to add Hopper1 to the pile which was nice!
  • The international premiere of the Ultraman Arc Movie happened, which was how I ended the day. And it was the world premiere of the English dub! Which was a surprise to us all. I didn't even know there was gonna be a dub for this, it was really good. According to the MC some of the VAs haven't even seen the movie yet. XD And the crowd was electric. There was a lot of cheering and someone yelled for Shu and Yuma to kiss at one point. X3
  • It was a very delightful movie and a great way to end a really fun day at this con. I had such a blast and as always it's so healing to me to be in a physical space with fellow nerds who love the things I love too!

Now I'll add some pictures too under a details tag.

Pics! May take a moment to load, has alt text. A Kamen Rider Blade Cosplay. A Kamen Rider Blade and Hotaro Ichinose Cosplay. My Hotaro Ichinose Cosplay, I am holding an oronamin C bottle. Various Tokusatsu merchandise, along with a Queen Emeraldas figure. Lakia and Vram standees behind the pudding custom charm. My hand holding the pudding custom charm. A bunch of Ultraman plushies, including a Godzilla, Hopper1, and Kamen Rider Kuuga.

I'm glad you had a great time! The convention sounds like it was a lot of fun, especially because of the toku focus. I love watching cosplay contests -- they're so cool with so many outfits from everyone! It's awesome you participated too.

The photos all look lovely! (Ahhh the pudding custom charm 🤩)

I'm glad you got to see the Arc movie!!! Yuma and Shu should have kissed, I agree 🤭🤭🤭 I can't wait to eventually see it dubbed myself

I saw someone on stilts at the convention I went to recently too, and I can't even imagine the balance that must require. Truly amazing what people do with cosplay sometimes!

When they released the Blazar series on bluray, they included the movie both subbed and dubbed. So I'm hoping they'll do the same for Arc too 🤞 it's always nice to have both language options
