Hello!

I'm looking for housing in McMinnville starting sometime January or February 07. I'm reasonably clean, unobtrusive and I tend to do things like cook large amounts of food for no reason other than to share. My budget is flexible, but I'd like to stay under $400 a month.

Anyway if you know of anyone looking for a flatmate I'd really appreciate it if you'd leave a comment.

Thanks!

Research participation wanted!

Linda Jones, a clinical psychology graduate student at UMBC, is conducting an online research study on how young adults with peanut allergy and/or tree nut allergy perceive the way their parent(s) raised them. Her research also aims to determine how these characteristics relate to other aspects of daily life. All participants must be between the ages of 18 and 22, but do not need to have peanut or tree nut allergy. Participants will be entered in a drawing to win their choice of either an Ipod or Nintendo DS-Lite. If you would like to participate the link to the survey is below. It may take up to an hour to complete.

Peanut and Tree Nut Allergies’ Impact on Perceived Parental Characteristics

Okay kids, it's time you come up with some new interests for the info page. If you don't, I'll make the bio even meaner, and nobody wants that. Bonus points for things that are both inside jokes and actually listed by other people. No bonus if "other people" are all other members of the community, though.

Refreshing your memory (and because I just added a couple), here's what we have already:

Unique: banana selling, being over becoming, dave matthews band covers, dillin, golf cart chasing, large inheritances, mispronouncing greek, o'riley's, sportsball, student news

Shared: aslc, albertsons, bacon tea, bad food, baked potatoes, biology, business, college, communications, communism, curry, drinking, e-mail, freezing rain, golf carts, hewlett packard, hoboes, homework, kslc, liberal arts, linfield, linfield college, mail, math, mcminnville, meat, misguided opinions, ms. pac man, nursing, olive oil, oregon, portland, pr0nography, procrastinating, pseudointellectualism, rain, roth's, school, sheep, sleeping, solipsism, staying up late, the catalyst, ufos, ultimate frisbee, vandalism, vapidity, whining, wine, wooing, zima

The plot thickens

This is posted in confidence, please don't spread this information around until an official announcement has been made (should be later today, I think). I'm telling this to you internet junkies so that at least SOME of you might know what's going on.

I was just talking to the school's network administrator today while I was at work and apparently three students have been identified as using >75% of the school's bandwidth between themselves. They have since been partitioned off into a restricted network segment. They're all in the same subnet, so I'd put money on the fact that they're friends who shared their little "hey, you can get Metallica albums really fastZorz by doing this!" secret amongst themselves. Basically, their traffic was partially classified as BitTorrent and partially classified as Default. I.E., a few people who found some method of file sharing that isn't caught by the PacketShaper are the likely cause of all of the recent dial-up speeds.

Fast file sharing may sound nice, kids, but doing it and then having the other 99.9% of the student body complain as though it's ITS's fault gets kind of old.

Regardless, if they don't control their bandwidth usage, I believe that they will either be shut off from the network until they get their act together, or in the (unlikely) case that it's just a trojan or virus that's doing this, we'll make sure they get cleaned up.

Just thought you guys would like to know what's been up lately.

EDIT: Apparently one of the three people is one of the people who have been complaining on Student News about the slowness lately. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
