The Colour of Blood

These characters all belong to the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien. This story was written for pleasure and not for financial gain.

Boromir fidgeted as the tailor fussed around him, fitting his new tunic for the Mettarë celebrations.

“A fine garment, my lord, fit for a king!” said the tailor.

Boromir glanced at himself in the glass. The burgundy red velvet did indeed give him a somewhat regal air. What if he and his men were to defeat the Dark Lord? Might the grateful people beg him to become King after his father?

A messenger entered. “Bad news, my lord, our men are defeated and have had to retreat.
Boromir’s vision faded. The tunic now seemed to him the colour of blood.

I think he would have these thoughts too especially in light of Faramir's words on the subject.
