Challenge #5
Talk about what has improved in your life thanks to fandom. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Fandom helped me discover my ability to write creatively. When I was a kid I wrote poetry and stories of my own. Then I stopped completely. I was always into music and continued to do that, and worked professionally for a long time. But I wasn't writing anymore. Then I got into reading fanfic when I revisited Mulan and got involved in that fandom, which led to me trying my hand at writing my own fics. I had some good ideas but wasn't too great when I first started. I'm happy to report that as I continued to write I improved.
I've had many things improve about my life from getting involved in fandom. Writing creatively is the one that comes to mind immediately. But I have met so many lovely people who adore the same fandoms as me, and other great people who introduced me to new fandoms. Thanks to these people I've discovered books I wouldn't have thought to read that I enjoyed. And it's just been great to find an online community, even if it's not large.
